About me

I'm so pleased you have arrived here on my counselling directory profile today. Whether you are here feeling a bit lost and overwhelmed, or know exactly what it is you're looking for, I seek to support you in a collaborative way to gain what you need from counselling.

My special areas of interest include:

low self esteem and confidence

anxiety, social anxiety and depression

grief

counselling young people and young adults

trauma counselling

chronic pain

and perinatal/ neonatal experiences

But I find that a lot of human experiences can't be put in a 'box' as above, so I'm here to explore it all with you openly, at your pace, one step at a time.

I seek to be able to support in a few main different ways:

Providing an open, reflective space to tell your story and feel seen in this, whether this be experiences from a long time ago or challenges happening for you right now.

Uncovering and understanding family and relationship patterns which may be impacting you in the present.

Discovering the role that our nervous system and the way we can sit with, and regulate our emotions affects us- this one can be really key if you are going through a very difficult time right now, or have experienced trauma.

Building practical strategies and exploring how your current ways of coping are working.

Allow me to introduce myself a little further - I hold a degree in 'Contemporary Relational Counselling' and serve as a member of the BACP, an ethical body here in the UK.

I believe, backed by evidence and my experience, that the relationship between you and your counsellor is one of the most important aspects of the process. Feeling safe, supported, and heard lays the foundation that sessions are built on, and I'm dedicated to fostering this environment should you choose to work with me.

If this resonates with you and you feel like you might like to work with me, I'll really look forward to hearing from you.

Training, qualifications & experience

Once I began training to be a counsellor in 2016, I knew very quickly that to be a counsellor is a genuine privilege and honour. To be able to listen, and be part of that counselling journey, particularly finding those moments where things click into place, or a spark of hope shines through, whilst we might be working through some really difficult things together.

I have worked as a counsellor on a counselling helpline, providing immediate support to clients calling in with a huge variety of different backgrounds, and for NHS Talking Therapies (which used to be known as IAPT: Improving Access to Psychological Therapies.) I am about to commence work as a specialist counsellor within the NHS alongside my work with Jessica Hill Counselling.

Diversity, and inclusivity of all backgrounds was at the very centre of my training, and I then completed a professional development course around LGBTQIA+ culture and issues, so I welcome people of all genders and all sexual orientations.

I am an integrative counsellor, which means I draw from a multitude of therapeutic approaches tailored specifically to your unique needs. The main approaches I use are called Attachment Therapy, Systemic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (often called CBT), or Narrative Therapy - I collaborate closely with you, adapting my approach based on your feedback and needs.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

I am really passionate that everyone should be able to access effective, caring counselling support - the long waiting times and often difficult to navigate systems can be such a barrier. As my small way of promoting the accessibility of counselling for all, I offer space for 8-12 sessions of low cost online counselling, for £25 pounds per session. These are spaces created for those that are on low to no income, or in financial difficulty that is making accessing help difficult.
