About me
Are you feeling anxious or depressed but you’re too ashamed or embarrassed to tell anyone about it? Do you force a smile on that brave face and carry on but inside you’re feeling lost with a sense of despair? Is this having an impact on your relationships?
I believe that everyone can change and grow at any time in their lives. Together we can figure out what’s really going on and uncover the cause/causes of your anxiety and/or depression. It is my belief that the main reason we develop these emotional and mental health issues is because they are unhealthy learned behaviours that we have picked up within our lives. With this theory in mind, I, therefore, believe that you can unlearn these outdated and unhelpful behaviours and replace them with new healthy ones.
I understand that at times life seems hard to cope with, problems build up and you may be experiencing overwhelming emotions. If you feel as though it's too much to deal with on your own then counselling may be the right option for you.
My name is Jason and I offer counselling in Basildon and the surrounding areas of Essex. My own personal experiences led me to seek counselling, after making some important life changes I reconsidered my career and focused on training to become a counsellor. These experiences have helped me to develop my own insights and awareness which I believe are vital for an effective counsellor. I am passionate about my work and feel privileged to be a counsellor, I am warm, empathic and focused.
I will help to facilitate and support you in a safe, non-judgmental, confidential and compassionate environment; whatever you decide to bring to counselling it will be at your pace. I aim to build a working relationship with you, enabling you to feel comfortable exploring and understanding your experiences, thoughts, and emotions and how they can be connected to events in the past or the present. Through this exploration, we can work towards positive change. It may be that you're uncertain of what needs to change or where to begin and that’s okay too. I work using mainly Transactional Analysis (TA for short). TA is a lively, dynamic and intelligent way to work, allowing for creativity; the models are intuitive and easy to understand. I have a wide array of concepts from which to draw upon for understanding situations ranging from simple to more complex ones. However, I adapt these styles to best suit you.
I believe that it requires a lot of courage to take the first steps into counselling, whether you're having counselling for the first time or returning after a break. I offer a free 20-minute initial phone assessment for you to share your concerns and to determine if the therapy I offer and myself as a counsellor are the right fit for you.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

The National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society This Not For Profit association of counsellors and psychotherapists aim to support the counselling profession, members and training organisations. In 2013 the NCS register was accredited by the Professional Standards Authority under the Accredited Voluntary Register Scheme. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
