About me

I am a qualified Advanced Counsellor/psychotherapist. I work online as a Couples Therapist as well as one to one with Individuals seeking therapy.  I have many years experience within Mental health and worked as a nurse specialising in post natal depression, palliative care and HIV before moving on to become a Professional Psychotherapist. I feel passionate about helping Couples and Individuals who are going through struggles in life and have furthered my specialist skills when working with couples by undertaking training specifically focused on relationship counselling .   I aim to offer a completely non judgemental space full of compassion, understanding, empathy and respect.

I have worked with Individual clients and Couples from all different types of cultures and orientations and welcome anyone to access my service without fear of prejudice.

The most important element in Therapy is a positive and trusting relationship between the client/s and the Therapist. Having the courage to take the step to contact someone for help is difficult and being able to feel comfortable with the Therapist of choice is really important. I offer a warm, friendly, confidential space to help you feel comfortable as quickly as possible.  My experience has shown that Counselling can be truly transformational for people and I am passionate about helping people go through that journey of self understanding and healing.

I work with Individuals one to one and with Couples addressing many issues that arise in relationships. My background training has led me to work in an integrative way bringing in elements from a number of different models. More focused additional training in Couple Counselling has also enriched my knowledge in different ways of working with Couples.

I am currently working face to face from a Shrewsbury location.  I can also provide Counselling online via video link or telephone and this is not restricted by location.

How Counselling can help?

Counselling is a process in which people can talk through issues or concerns that are causing stress/distress. Talking in Counselling allows you to explore and understand these issues or feelings and find a way to move forward with your life.

Relationship issues cover areas like poor communication, repeated conflicts, infidelity, loss of trust, loss of connection, struggling to let go of resentments and anger against your partner, failing sex life or problems/dissatisfaction with it, abuse, boredom, loss of love and affection or connection and many more.

Individual therapy can help with bereavement and loss, anxiety, stress, depression, work pressure, decision making, relationship difficulties and much more.

Many people come to counselling as a last resort and I often see couples who have been facing serious long-term difficulties.  I can provide a safe space for couples who wish to repair or improve their relationship but also those who can't decide which way to go or where one partner really wants to save the relationship and the other is reluctant or unsure.

Non- intimate relationship difficulties are equally stressful and distressing when they occur and can involve friendships, work, children, extended family members and when your attempts to resolve these are failing Counselling can be a way to understand what is going wrong and explore different ways to move forward positively.

What to expect in your first session.

You can contact me to answer any initial questions or concerns then decide whether you wish to book a first session. This first session will help you to decide if Counselling is right for you before booking subsequent sessions. Counselling does not have to be a long process it can often be short term and solution focused where just a few sessions can be sufficient to address the issues and can be weekly or fortnightly.

Counselling particularly with couples can sometimes bring about really positive change in just one or two appointments for those who come for help early in their difficulties or may take a very prolonged period of working together for others.  It is very individual and dependent on the issues and commitment from both parties.

Interested? What you need to do next...

You can either phone text or email me with any questions or to book a session. There is no commitment to continue after your first session and no pressure to rebook a follow up until and if you are ready to do so.

Further information

I believe that the most important and most effective way to gain benefit from Counselling is by having a good connection and rapport with your therapist. My experience has led me to feel that this is something I am able to do with clients very quickly.

My work with Couples has included all groups including same sex and heterosexual, married, unmarried, open relationships . I am nonjudgemental and treat everyone with respect and acceptance.

My previous role as a nurse was as an HIV nurse specialist based within sexual health and I bring that knowledge and expertise of working with a highly stigmatising condition and with clients from a wide variety of backgrounds with me to my Counselling role.

I work very much in an integrated way bringing in different models and ways of working with clients, and together we find the best approach going forward.
