About me

A warm welcome to my therapy service where I offer a safe space for you to explore issues that may be preventing you from living your life as fully as you would like. Maybe you feel lost or overwhelmed and do not know which direction to take? I will encourage you to bring your concerns, feelings, thoughts so that we can identify the behaviours that have an impact on your struggles. Working together to better understand what is happening in your life today and maybe how previous events and patterns may be affecting you. I do not judge or give advice, but offer a warm relationship with active engagement, empathy and compassion.

At our intital appointment we can discuss your hopes and expectations and also whether it is appropriate for us to work for a fixed number of sessions or in a more open-ended manner.

I practice from premises in Broxbourne and Bishops Stortford Hertfordshire and will offer appointments based on your convenience and our mutual availability.

Testimonial from a client:

"I had no previous experience of counselling or therapy before meeting Jac. The relationship she built with me over 18 months has literally changed my life. A recent trauma at work had left me unable to cope with basic things in life and I felt so desperate. Sometimes, I don't know how Jac made any sense of my ramblings but she was never anything less than warm, empathetic and supportive. She helped me to explore the events in my childhood that impacted on the person I became. Through developing a real relationship with me, based on genuine interest in me as a person and care for my well-being, she helped me to see myself and my relationships differently. The experience has had an impact on all aspects of my life. My self-esteem is strong, my relationships more positive and I am excited about the future. I will never be able to thank Jac enough, and I have no hesitation in recommending her significant therapeutic skills to others seeking help."

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a Masters in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am a qualified and registered psychotherapist, and as a member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) I adhere to their code of ethics.

EXPERIENCE

Prior to my training as a psychotherapist I worked in the commercial world for over 20 years, creating, developing and managing products and brands. Recruiting, managing, mentoring and coaching a professional team of individuals enabled me to develop my skills and have since proved invaluable in my work with clients in both my private practice and patients in the NHS mental health service.

TRAINING

I studied at The University of Hertfordshire and The Minster Centre, the UK's leading Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy training institute. Integrative therapy is a form of practice that enables a flexible and inclusive approach to understanding and meeting the needs of the individual client.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

For some people, asking for help can be difficult, a good place to start is finding the right therapist for your journey. It is not unusual to feel hesitant or unsure about seeking help. Having been through challenging experiences in my own life, I understand the difficulties of taking the first step, reaching out and asking for support.

From time to time we may find ourselves in painful situations, feeling overwhelmed, perhaps lost or experiencing a lack of confidence, negative thoughts, or unhelpful behaviours. There may be many reasons why you are seeking support, including anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, addictions or generally struggling with life’s challenges.

I offer a warm, confidential, non-judgemental, safe space for you, in which I will support you through every aspect of the therapeutic process, whatever your needs.

I will listen to you, providing the opportunity for you to reflect, explore and understand whatever is causing you distress in your life.

Your experiences, feelings and process are unique to you, so working relationally we aim to find a way through together. I believe positive change can happen when you allow yourself to look at life in a new way.

MY APPROACH

My therapeutic approach is integrative, meaning I draw from a variety of different theories, which enables me to work in a relational way, offering the very best tailored support depending on your individual needs. I focus on building a strong, therapeutic relationship that will facilitate support, awareness and insight, whilst promoting your personal growth. I also believe that our childhood experiences can have an impact on how we feel about ourselves today and can influence how we relate to others and how we live in the present moment. I incorporate psychodynamic ideas and attachment theory into my work with clients, as well as relational psychotherapy placing importance in our therapeutic relationship.
