About me

Hello, I'm Harriet. I offer individual counselling to adults in Bristol and online. I often work with people who are struggling with relationships, anxiety or the effects of past traumas, and support them to find a clearer way forward with their lives.

How I work
I offer a safe space to explore and better understand what has been happening for you, to express feelings, to notice reactions. We may look at your life in the present and can explore the past and how this affects your life now. All of this exploration can help you make sense of your difficulties, and can also give insights and help you find a clearer way forward.

Next steps
It’s important to find a counsellor that you feel comfortable to work with. With this in mind, I offer an initial free phone consultation. The first in-person session is also an opportunity for us both to make sure we are a good fit for working together. If you want more information about how I work, do get in touch, or have a look at my website.

Training, qualifications & experience

Qualifications and Training

  • Professional Diploma in Humanistic and Integrative Counselling from the Bath Centre for Psychotherapy and Counselling (BCPC).
  • Foundation Certificate in Counselling and Psychotherapy
  • Accredited Journey Practitioner – the work of Brandon Bays
  • Hypnobirthing Childbirth Educator
  • BA (Hons) in Human Sciences

I am a registered member of BACP, the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Experience

I have been a counsellor at the Swan Project in Bristol since 2019, offering low cost counselling, primarily to people experiencing addiction. I have many years experience working therapeutically with adults using Journey Work, a therapy that uses guided visualisation to access underlying emotions and to work through them. I also work with pregnant women and their partners as a Hypnobirthing Childbirth Educator. Previously I have worked as a public health researcher and university teacher, and internationally for different development organisations.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
