About me

Hello, I am Frances, it’s lovely to meet you.

You’re taking the first step toward improving your wellbeing and it takes a lot of effort in getting started, so all the credit goes to you.

And that first step can involve some nervy feelings, because that choice to start finding help may be very raw still, or it has come after a build-up of the situation and overwhelm has kicked in. To settle those doubts, here are a few things to reassure you:

Working together is not a one-size-fits-all approach

You’re an individual, so we’ll work with your personal needs. This is why I’m trained (see my qualifications below) in a wide range of approaches. This means you can work with someone who’ll adapt and respond to you.

Whatever you bring into the room, we can make positive changes from day one.

I am highly experienced

You want to know that you’re in safe hands in the therapy room. I worked as a holistic therapist before becoming a counsellor, which means I’ve been healing people in some shape or form for over 22 years. In that time I’ve worked extensively with a large number and a wide range of people (scroll down to see my testimonials).

Experience is good when someone is handling your most intimate thoughts and feelings.

We’re in this together

Counselling is a collaborative process. I help you find control of your thoughts and feelings, and events that have occurred, both present and in your past. My promise to you is the therapy room, whether online or in-person, will be one of trust, honesty, and mutual respect.
(please note I only see clients over 18 years old )

This creates an environment of open exploration, increasing your chances of successful therapy.

All said and done, the best way to experience therapy is to try it for yourself. You’ve already made the first step by visiting my page, the next one is to email or give me a call.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

Most people book their first counselling session straight away,  either to come for a face to face session, or online session. Some people prefer to put a toe in the water first , and go for a free ‘ meet me’ session .The ‘ free session ‘ is a 20 minute online chat.
This gives us the opportunity to briefly discuss your subjects for counselling, for us to compare our diaries to see if we can find a mutually convenient time to meet, and for you to get a sense of how I work , and decide I if I am the right therapist for you. This free session is not a counselling session.

please let me know if you are enquiring about a counselling session or a free 20 minute chat when you contact me.

For those visiting my therapy room, parking is very easy, in the driveway or opposite the lane, in the lay-bys.

There is a gender neutral toilet available in the entrance hallway.

I offer long or short-term therapy, or single session with no ‘ fixed ‘ number of appointments required.

Online sessions are currently zoom, doxy.me or Google meet

I have lots of experience working with counselling students, seeking sessions as part of their training and I offer a concessional rate for you.
