About me

Have you ever thought, "why do I act like this? Why do I think this way? I wish I didn't!" You are not alone, but it is not always easy to discuss these things with friends or family.

Exploring how past and present intersect can help you understand why you respond the way you do. I help my clients to discover who they are and how that is linked to their past. In counselling jargon, this is called psychodynamic work. You can gain insight into patterns of behaviour or thoughts, which is the first step towards changing them. This is not about managing symptoms but addressing the underlying cause.

Generally, counselling provides the opportunity to talk about your problems to a compassionate, non-judgemental listener, which takes the weight out of issues that are such a burden. I believe that working together to explore your past can be transformative, and I have seen this through several years of client work.

Working together online allows you to avoid commuting time, to fit counselling into your work day or meet with me in your own space, where you already feel comfortable. Anything you want to hand, from a cosy blanket, that note you made "to speak to Fiona about" or a cup of tea is with you. Working online is not a barrier to effective therapy or using creative tools. I will email you a link to a Zoom call you can access from your web browser, so there is no need to download anything and we will use the same link each time.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I am a Christian, so I can integrate your Christian faith into our sessions. This might look like asking how you feel God sees the situation or which Bible verses resonate with you. Where your concerns may be faith-related, I bring my understanding and experience of church dynamics, misuse of Scripture etc.

Have a different belief system? That's fine! I work with people from different faith backgrounds and none, and I bring the same principles of valuing you as a unique person and prioritising your values to our work.
