About me

Have you ever thought, "why do I act like this? Why do I think this way? I wish I didn't!" Perhaps you're fed up with feeling anxious or depressed, and are ready for things to change. You are not alone in feeling this way, but it's not always easy to discuss personal issues with friends or family.

I help my clients discover who they are. Exploring how the past influences the present can help you understand why you respond the way you do, and why you might experience anxiety or depression. Understanding your patterns of behaviour or thinking is the first step towards changing them. This is not about managing symptoms but addressing the underlying causes - you don't want to just feel better, but stay better!

Counselling provides the opportunity to talk about your problems with a compassionate, non-judgemental listener, lifting some of the burden off your shoulders. I start a session by asking what topic you want to discuss, and then ask questions to help you explore this topic and draw out applications for day-to-day life. Sometimes I use creative techniques like drawing or using photo therapy cards. I might suggest something to reflect on or try out before the next session. In my experience, working together like this to explore your life can be transformative.

I would love to chat with you about how I can help you in the situation you face, in a free introductory call. If you were to decide to work with me, we could meet in person at my comfortable office on Giles Street, Leith, or online.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I'm a Christian, so when working with a Christian, we have the option to include your faith in our sessions. This might look like asking how you feel God sees the situation or which Bible verses resonate with you. Where your concerns may be faith-related, I contribute my understanding and experience of church dynamics, misuse of Scripture etc.

Have a different belief system? That's fine! I work with people from different faith backgrounds and none, and my starting point is the same for every client; valuing you as a unique person and prioritising your values and worldview.
