About me

I am an experienced counsellor working with individuals in Edinburgh. I work with people bringing a range of issues including depression, anxiety, loss and grief, trauma, weight, size and eating, and relationship difficulties.

Talking to friends and family can be helpful but sometimes we need more. Perhaps you feel stuck and don’t know how to move forward, or you may be aware of an unhelpful pattern in relationships which you keep repeating. Counselling offers a safe, confidential, accepting and non-judgemental space where you can talk through what is troubling you. I will not tell you what to do; together we will explore your situation and I will support you as you decide what, if any, changes you want to make.

The relationship between counsellor and client is central to my way of working. Mutual trust and respect are needed to help you feel comfortable enough to express difficult feelings and share painful experiences. I like to work creatively: we are holistic beings, mind, body, emotions and spirit, and I am interested in working with all these aspects of you.

Training, qualifications & experience

My core training was a four year postgraduate psychotherapy training in Transactional Analysis with Physis Training. I was drawn to train in TA because of my personal experience of how clearly its ideas related to my own experience and how creatively it could be used. It provides rich and varied ways of thinking about how we relate to others and ourselves and many tools for exploration and growth.

I am also trained as a kinesiologist and have a lot of experience of working with the body's natural healing energies. I have a number of tools and techniques I can use together with counselling when appropriate if that is something that interests you.

  • Diploma in Counselling using Transactional Analysis (COSCA validated)
  • HNC in Counselling from Edinburgh College
  • Member of British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)
  • Member of Scottish, UK, European and International Transactional Analysis Associations (STAA, UKATA, EATA, ITAA)

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
