About me

Are you in the early years of motherhood and feel like you're just surviving? Your aim each day is just to get through it? Perhaps you've googled 'do I have postnatal depression' or spent time scrolling for answers to stop you feeling like this but come up with nothing.

If this feels familiar, you're in the right place. As a postnatal counsellor I help new mums break free from survival mode so they can live the life they deserve.

Therapy sessions with me, whether online or in person, give you space to organise your thoughts, release your feelings, work out what is keeping you stuck in this place, and discover what you need to move forward.

It doesn't matter whether you have a diagnosis, or think you may have postnatal depression or anxiety, what matters is how it's impacting you and that's what we focus on.

My children are older, is postnatal counselling for me?

'Postnatal' means post birth, so in my eyes once postnatal, you're always postnatal so you are very welcome, whatever the age of your children. Having said that, the majority of my clients tend to have children around the age of 5 and under.

What is counselling with Claire like?

Postnatal counselling is about giving you space to air your thoughts and feelings. It's about feeling seen and heard.

We are made up of so many different parts and sometimes we have conflicting voices as a result. We might know something is not logical or rational and yet part of us just keeps returning to it. Postnatal counselling is about exploring that, giving voice to those parts and working out the role they play. Every part of us is important and trying to shut the parts down we don't like only makes them louder.

As part of your counselling sessions we might delve into the past, look at the present or explore what you want the future to look like. Nothing is off the table.

In some sessions it might feel like all you do is talk and that is great! Some sessions you might feel you're not sure what to say and that's important too, even having nothing to say or not knowing where to start tells us something.

In some sessions we might explore things through creative work with stones, shells, mark making (no artistic talent required!) or mindfulness.

I always invite you to share what is on your mind, I ask you if I've understood things right, I aim to always be honest and open with you because our relationship is crucial to the therapeutic process.

In our sessions, I not only sit with you as a professional but also as a mum to young children who understands the depths that you can sink to. In life, we're often trying to hold everything, hold everyone else and contain our emotions so we can just keep going and that is so hard to maintain.  Therapy with me lets you offload these things that are weighing on your shoulders.

How do I get started?

I invite you to book a free 15 min call so you can see if I'm the right person for you. However, I'm also aware sometimes you just want to get started and that's okay too.

To book a free 15 min call or your first session, head to https://calendly.com/clairejuddtherapy

I also offer Postnatal Enrichment Sessions, a one off 60 or 90 minute session which is perfect for if you don't feel you need weekly counselling but would like the chance to talk through things like your birth experience, scary or intrusive thoughts you might be having and generally to gain peace of mind about what you're experiencing. These can also be booked online at the above link.

Get in touch

I know it can feel daunting when contacting a counsellor, it's a very personal process. If now feels like the right time for you, I welcome any questions via email or you can go straight to my booking page for a free 15 minute call or to book your first session.

You might also find it helpful to look me up on instagram (@thepostnatalcounsellor) or head to my website www.clairejudd.co.uk for more information, articles and a free guide to finding calm in the postnatal period.

I'm here when you're ready.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
