About us

At Attachment Trauma Therapy Clinic (ATTC), we offer private therapy, low‑cost counselling, and clinical supervision for adults who want to understand themselves more deeply, heal from difficult experiences, and build healthier relationships.

Our approach is attachment‑informed and trauma‑aware. We believe that early relationships shape how we feel, how we connect, and how we respond to stress - and that with the right support, these patterns can be gently understood and changed.

ATTC is a warm, calm, and welcoming space near Waterloo, where clients are met with respect, care, and genuine curiosity. We work at a pace that feels safe, steady, and attuned to each person’s needs.

Our main clinician, Mirek Polanowski, is an accredited BACP therapist, clinical supervisor, and founder of ATTC. He has many years of experience supporting clients through:

  • attachment‑related difficulties
  • developmental and relational trauma
  • anxiety, depression and emotional overwhelm
  • anger, shame and identity challenges
  • relationship struggles and communication breakdowns
  • addictions and coping patterns that no longer serve
  • sexuality issues
  • men’s issues

His background includes work in the NHS, the voluntary sector, and long‑term private practice. He also teaches, specialising in the Humanistic and Person‑Centred Approach, and delivering workshops on attachment, trauma, addiction, and loss.

Clients often describe him as steady, warm and deeply supportive - someone who helps them feel safe enough to explore difficult experiences while also encouraging clarity, resilience and emotional growth.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am an accredited BACP therapist, clinical supervisor, and trainer.

My training is integrative, with a strong grounding in humanistic, person‑centred, attachment‑based and trauma‑informed approaches. I hold diplomas in humanistic integrative counselling, trauma-informed therapy, attachment-informed therapy, and clinical supervision.

Over the years, I have worked across the NHS, homelessness services, education, and the voluntary sector, supporting people facing complex trauma, emotional dysregulation, relationship difficulties, addictions, anxiety, depression and long‑standing patterns rooted in early attachment experiences. This breadth of experience has shaped a therapeutic style that is warm, steady and deeply relational.

I teach on the Diploma in Integrative Counselling, specialising in the Humanistic and Person‑Centred Approach. Alongside this, I deliver workshops on:

  • attachment
  • developmental trauma
  • addiction
  • loss and bereavement

My clinical work is informed by ongoing professional development in trauma, attachment, somatic awareness, emotional regulation and relational psychotherapy. I am committed to offering therapy that is attuned, respectful and grounded - a space where clients can feel safe enough to explore difficult experiences and supported enough to grow beyond them.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

We have verified that at least one professional at this organisation is registered with the relevant professional body.

How We Work

Our therapeutic approach is integrative, drawing on humanistic, psychodynamic, attachment‑based and trauma‑informed principles.

This means we tailor therapy to each person, rather than expecting you to fit a model. We pay close attention to:

  • your emotional world
  • your nervous system
  • your relationships
  • your lived experiences
  • your strengths and resources

We believe that healing happens through safe, attuned relationships, and we work carefully to offer exactly that.

Sessions take place at our Waterloo office or online.

Understanding Trauma & Attachment (in everyday language)

Many people who come to ATTC have lived through experiences that shaped how they relate to themselves and others. Sometimes these experiences were clearly traumatic - conflict, instability, neglect, or loss. Sometimes they were subtle - emotional distance, unpredictability, feeling unseen or unsupported.

These early patterns can continue into adulthood and show up as:

  • anxiety or emotional overwhelm
  • depression or low motivation
  • anger, shame, or self‑criticism
  • relationship difficulties
  • people‑pleasing or withdrawal
  • feeling “too much” or “not enough”
  • trouble trusting or feeling safe

Therapy at ATTC helps you gently explore these patterns, understand where they came from, and begin to build new ways of relating - to yourself and to others.

Our Values

ATTC is inspired by the work of Janusz Korczak, whose philosophy emphasised respect, independence, emotional safety and the right conditions for growth.

We hold these values closely in our therapeutic work:

  • Respect - you are met with care, curiosity and non‑judgement.
  • Safety - emotional and relational safety are central.
  • Growth - therapy is a space to understand, heal and develop.
  • Trust - we believe human trust is the most precious gift.

A Final Word

ATTC is a place where you can slow down, feel heard, and begin to make sense of your experiences. Whether you choose private therapy, low‑cost counselling, or clinical supervision, you will be met with warmth, professionalism, and genuine commitment to your wellbeing.

If you’d like, I can now help you refine this into a directory‑ready version, a shorter profile, or a more marketing‑focused version.
