About me

As an Integrative Counselling Psychotherapist, I did my initial training placement at Mind, where I worked as a volunteer Counsellor & Therapeutic course facilitator for just under 7 years before training with Salford University's Specialist Domestic Violence and Abuse Service. I am also trained by Professor Windy Dryden and have BPS approved certification in Single-Session Therapy .

I am am a warm, caring, and approachable person with a very down to earth approach. I am easy to talk to, and have a genuine interest in helping others build resilience and overcome difficulty. I am non-judgemental and a good listener.

I have a passion for helping clients learn how to manage anxiety, depression, stress, low mood, negative thinking, self doubt, low confidence, self esteem and worry issues that are negatively impacting on life & well-being.

Individual circumstance vary over time, so I believe in using a combination of theoretical approaches and techniques in my work , to provide a uniquely bespoke service tailored to your current and changing needs.

I understand choosing the right counsellor is very important, and starting therapy can often be a difficult time. To make this easier, I can offer a free initial appointment to discuss your specific challenges. This gives us the opportunity to discover if we feel we are a good fit for each other before booking sessions.

Life can often become very complex and transitioning through life changes can be difficult to navigate, but, with the right support, adjusting to Grief & Loss & any difficulties can be managed in proactive ways.

Working together, we can use any combination of Mindfulness, Compassion Focused Therapy, Person Centred Counselling, CBT, and other approaches that are appropriate for your needs. This is all done as a gradual process, working at the pace that's right for you.

This helps build your personal resilience, understanding and acceptance. The work we do is tailored around your needs and your preferences in therapy, and designed to fully support and empower you.

If you feel stuck, fearful, anxious, or are struggling and need assistance, or just a listening ear,  please email, text or call. Voicemail is on when I am with clients, but please leave a message with a number to call you back on. I will always respond within 24 hours (at the latest) so that we can explore the best options to help you.

If you are interested in any of the other services I offer in addition to counselling, and feel they may be of benefit to you or your organisation, please feel free to enquire and I will be happy to provide more details.

Training, qualifications & experience

Qualifications:

Reiki Master Practitioner Certificate - January 2019

BTEC Level 5 Diploma in Education & Training (Professional) - August 2018

ABC Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (Professional) - October 2017

ABC Level 3 Diploma in Counselling Skills - November 2013

Second Degree Reiki Practitioner Certificate - June 2013

First Degree Reiki Practitioner Certificate - November 2012

ABC Level 2 Award in Counselling Concepts - February 2012

I have lots of experience in a busy local Mind Mental health Charity as both a counsellor for one to one counselling, and as a facilitator, delivering educational therapeutic courses to help groups develop awareness of mental health, learn how to manage and improve wellbeing.

I have trained with Salford University's Domestic Violence and Abuse Unit and can offer specialist support for clients who have a history of abuse or are struggling with the difficulty of having been involved in an abusive relationship.

I have trained directly with Professor Windy Dryden and worked with him closely since  early 2020. I have BPS approved certification as a SIngle-Session Therapist  and I am qualified to offer professionally focused Single-Session Therapy for those not wanting nor requiring long term therapy.  This is especially helpful where you are looking for an immediate resolution to a specific pressing problem or issue.  As the name suggests Single-Session Therapy is arranged at the point of need, and is conducted one session at a time, rather than being ongoing.

As well as Professional Counselling training  - I have lots of personal experience of life's difficulties, building resilience, and the use of techniques for managing complex issues. This has the added benefit of a deeper understanding, sensitivity and insight when working with my clients.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
