About me

**Currently accepting new clients**

Hi there! My name is Alita, and I'm a psychotherapist in Aberdeen - though I can see clients anywhere in the UK virtually! My foundational training is in Person-Centred Counselling. This means I believe you are the expert on all things you do and I view my job as one of coming alongside you to help you process, heal, and grow. I believe all people have the capacity for growth and change, especially if they’re given a non-judgmental, empathic space to do so. I work in an eclectic way, which means that I pull from many therapeutic modalities in my work. I also draw heavily on my background in psychology to provide evidence-based psychoeducation (information to help you better understand mental health and wellbeing) around topics you may bring to therapy. This means that sessions with me will include space for listening and processing, but that I also have lots of evidence-based, practical tools to offer you during our work together.

I believe it is most helpful to clients when I show up as my authentic self in sessions, so you can expect a lot of warmth, metaphors and examples, and a candid approach to therapy.

My goal is to provide a safe space for you to process and heal, offering you practical tools, empathic listening, and non-judgmental, collaborative exploration of what you bring to therapy.

I work with a variety of mental health concerns, including:

  • Anxiety & anxiety-related issues
  • Relational difficulties
  • Perfectionism
  • People pleasing
  • Stress
  • Self-harm
  • Eating disorders
  • Big life transitions.

If any of this sounds like what you’re struggling with, then please reach out, because we might be a good match!

Training, qualifications & experience

I practice in an integrative way, drawing from the MSc programs I've completed as well as the additional training I've received since. I received my MSc in Person-Centred Counselling from the  University of Aberdeen, as well as my MSc in Applied Psychology from Robert Gordon University. I have additional training in trauma-informed care, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Radically-Open Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (RO-DBT). As part of my membership with the BACP, I am required (and look forward to!) completing additional trainings each year, allowing me to offer you therapy that is in line with current best practice.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
