About me

Are you struggling with anxiety or low mood?  Do you feel stuck,  or overwhelmed by challenges in your life or in your relationships?  I work with adults and young people to make sense of their feelings, manage their anxiety and make positive changes in their lives.

How can counselling help?

You may be experiencing feelings of anxiety, loss or depression. Maybe you are feeling overwhelmed at work or in your personal relationships. Perhaps you have developed unhealthy coping strategies such as using alcohol, food or other substances/behaviours to sooth difficult feelings. If so, I can help.

As a Humanistic counsellor, I believe that our natural tendency is towards change and growth but that this can become stunted through difficult life experiences and patterns. By exploring how you form your beliefs and relate to yourself and  others, you can increase your awareness, develop self-compassion and have more choice and control in how you live your life.

About me

I am a fully qualified and experienced Humanistic counsellor working in private practise and the voluntary sector.  Before training as a counsellor, I worked for for many years with large organisations and have a deep understanding of work-related pressures and their impact on family and personal relationships. Over the past 6 years I've also supported many people in addressing addictive/compulsive behaviours, including those related to alcohol, food and internet/social media.

Getting started

It's very important when looking for a counsellor that you find someone that you are comfortable to work with. The first step will be for us to have an introductory phone call so I can understand your reasons for seeking counselling and we can see how we work together.

Once we are happy to go ahead with counselling, we will arrange to meet regularly.  Currently, due to restrictions around the Covid-19 pandemic,  this will be by video or telephone call.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • BSc (Hons) in Humanistic Counselling
  • Diploma in Humanistic Counselling
  • Certificate in Brief Therapy

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
