About me

I am an experienced psychotherapist, Art therapist and Certified Grief Recovery Specialist.

My private practice is in Bury St Edmunds. As a psychotherapist, my approach is integrative, with a humanistic and existential perspective. At the heart of my practice is the client-psychotherapist relationship. I consider the relationship central to my work, believing it to hold vast therapeutic potentials. I hope to offer you a sense of holding, providing a containing environment in order to make the experience more manageable, so that we can explore material on a deep and profound level.

As an Art Psychotherapist, I welcome creativity and authenticity during our sessions. The arts can often defy the limitations of language and provide meaning and clarity to unvoiced emotions you may be feeling. The arts can be used to amplify an inner language which is initially non-verbal, to help you gain insight and understanding into your life, the past, the present and future.

No previous experience of being artistic is required. Using art materials during a psychotherapy session is another way to express yourself, so it is therefore the process of creating we are looking at rather than the finished product. As you engage with the arts you will create your own unique way of working with the materials, letting go of self-criticism, and accepting that there is no right or wrong, in Art Psychotherapy.

I also respect that the arts are not always appealing to everyone, and there is of course the option not to use any materials. We will find a way of working together that best suits you.

Training, qualifications & experience

Masters Degree in Integrative Art Psychotherapy, from IATE (The Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education). I am an accredited member of UKCP and HCPC. My work adheres strictly to the UKCP code of ethics.

Certificate in Psychodrama Theory and Practice from the London Centre for Psychodrama.

Certificate in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy from the Grove.

Certification in The Grief Recovery Method (www.tgrm.co.uk).

Certificate in Couples Counselling

As well as my private practice I currently work in a hospice with patients and families and offer bereavement support to children and adults. I am coordinator of the children's  bereavement service working with children and youngsters from 4 years to 18 years.  I have been in this field since 2012.

I have a special interest in working with loss - not only the loss of a loved one, but also that of one's health, identity, a job, a marriage, a relationship, or a home.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

HCPC
Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.

Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Accredited register membership

UK Council for Psychotherapy
