Terri Windsor BSc(Hons)Psych. AdvDipCouns. MBACP(Accred)
As a qualified, experienced counsellor of over thirteen years, and in my fifth year of psychotherapy training, I provide a professional and supportive environment in which we can explore your difficulties and concerns and work towards lasting change.
Some of my clients come having had difficult or painful life experiences, some with relational patterns that are making them unhappy, some feel overwhelmed, sad or low and may not know why. Others come wanting to explore and find for themselves a more fulfilling way of being in the world. If any of this resonates with you please do get in touch.
My approach is a holistic and integrated one which recognises the importance of body as well as mind processes. We all are born with the capacity to live satisfying lives, but through our lifetime of relationships we learn to modify ourselves. We can lose touch with how we feel and what is important to us. We can become stuck in fixed patterns and beliefs about ourselves that get in the way of our relationship with both ourselves and others. We can hold past experiences that remain "unfinished" or can struggle with choices in our current situation.
Working at your pace, I support you to come to a greater awareness of yourself and when appropriate will be gently challenging. Through our dialogue new possibilities can emerge, enabling you to make different choices about how you choose to live your life.
I work with individuals, offering both short-term counselling and longer term therapy, depending on what you are looking for from our work together.
What to do next
If you would like to enquire further please send me an email or give me a call. I do prefer to talk to you directly before arranging a first appointment and will usually call you back within 24 hours. If you have a preferred time e.g. after 6pm please let me know.
Our first appointment will give you the chance to meet me and to see if what I have to offer is right for you, and for me to understand what you want to get out of therapy. Above all, it is important that you choose someone you feel comfortable enough with. If you decide working with me fits for you, then appointments are usually weekly at a regular time.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have been working in private practice several years now, although have only been in Northumberland for two years, having relocated from Hampshire. I offer both short term counselling and longer term psychotherapy.
Previously I have gained extensive experience of working within the NHS, offering time-limited counselling to people experiencing depression and anxiety.
I also have experience of working within an agency offering both open-ended therapy and short term work. Here I specialised in working with addiction, particularly alcohol.
Working with bereaved children and adults as a volunteer in a bereavement service, I also trained volunteers to work with children. Employed by Naval Welfare, I also have experience of supporting Naval Personnel and their families.
