About me

I have 15 years experience working with people from 16, to adults of all ages, with a vast array of problems and issues, including relationships, loss, depression, anxiety, abuse, self-harm, stress, addictions, work related and anger.

I had extensive training while working with Cruse Bereavement Care, I have experience of working with; loss, complicated grief, PTSD and loss of a loved one through suicide and murder.

During my time working in a children’s home I started my counselling training.  Rather than viewing the children as flawed, with problematic behaviours, and thoughts, I realised that person-centred counselling identifies that the individual has the capacity, and desire for personal growth and change, no matter what the challenge.

This way of working came naturally to me, and over the years has resulted in me becoming a person-centred counsellor, who is led by your needs. Working together we can help you make those changes, and grow. I also use CBT, to help you manage your problems by changing the way you think and behave.

How counselling can help you

When unexpected change, or traumatic events happen our brain can struggle to make sense, and process them. This can leave us struggling to cope, feeling overwhelmed, and with extremes of emotions. By providing a confidential, supportive, sensitive, compassionate, trusting and caring environment we can work together to give you the time and space to process your past, or present, experiences. To gain clarity and understand what is triggering, and maintaining your difficulties. To help you acquire new skills/techniques to assist you in overcoming the issues you are facing. Then the overwhelming difficulties can become more manageable, and change can happen for you to take back control, and lead a happier, and healthier life.

There are many stresses and issues in our everyday life that can put a strain on our relationships. With couples counselling I can help you to learn the skills to work through those difficulties, to glue your relationship solidly back together, just like a dovetail joint. In carpentry the dovetail joint requires practice, just like our relationships.
