About me
From a very young age into adulthood life can present us with difficulties and challenges. Not knowing how to deal with our lives sufficiently can create psychological and physical symptoms of stress. Stress can often present it self as Anxiety & Depression and some people may find they have inadvertently become dependent on substances to manage their stress.
Some of the most common causes of life stress are communication difficulties, bereavement, trauma, relationship problems, work and general life. Experiencing symptoms of stress can feel confusing and upsetting therefore making it difficult to function properly in day to day life, as a result this may cause feelings of sadness, despair, anger, anxiety and depression.
Learning about ourselves and our current life situations through Counselling can help us to pin point why we struggle to cope in these situations and how to better manage our unhelpful patterns of behaviour and to develop a more mature response towards expressing ourselves. When we begin to understand and accept that life isn't always how we want it to be, we become more able to manage the changes we need to make in order to live a happier and healthier life.
I had struggled with a variety of different difficult life situations for many years, and it was through my own counselling sessions I learned to understand why I experienced these difficulties and learned how to overcome them. This is the reason why I am passionate about helping other people within the counselling relationship I because I know it works.
I can help to teach you how to develop valuable coping skills that can help you to manage difficult times and regain the life that you deserve to live.
Training, qualifications & experience
Integrative Therapeutic Counselling - CPCAB Dip.couns, MBACP Registered.
Mental Health, Substance Misuse, Alcoholism, Group Therapy, Individual Therapy, Mindfullness, CBT, Addictions.
I am a qualified integrative counsellor and previously worked at MIND for Mental Health and Open Road and Action on Addiction for substance misuse. I currently run a private practice from a cosy log cabin.
I grounded myself in mental health by working as a support worker and counsellor in the day to day lives of people living with mild to severe mental health disorders such as anxiety, depression, schizophrenia and bipolar. I have also worked supporting people who have difficulties with using drugs and alcohol and again I found the best way to learn how it affects people's lives was to work with them and help them to try to turn their lives around.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
