Individual and Couple / Relationship Counselling
As a Senior Accredited, person-centred therapist I have 18yrs experience working in a variety of settings including NHS, GP practice, University, and private practice; working across the generations with individuals and couples from many and varied backgrounds with many and varied problems.
My aim in therapy is always to facilitate a safe, professional, human relationship which allows for the exploration of your concerns and experiences as deeply as you wish.
As it can be difficult to know sometimes what therapy or therapist is right for you I am always very happy to discuss informally together, before we meet, what help may be most suitable for you and to re-direct you to other therapists / agencies if we feel that would be best. Please contact me to discuss anything further.
Areas of my work include:
- Life crisis
- Loss of sense of self
- Relationship problems
- Sexual identity
- Traumatic life experiences
For a number of years I was also the lead counsellor trainer on three of the regions counsellor training courses from Certificate to Diploma level.
As a supervisor I strive to work collaboratively, supportively and encouragingly. My supervisory work encompasses all levels of experience from therapists in-training through newly qualified to experienced therapists. My experience includes group supervision as well as one to one.
My work as a group facilitator has included the setting up and facilitation of personal development groups, specific themed groups and counsellor supervision groups both privately, within the NHS and the University of Cambridge Staff Counselling Service
Workshops and Training
As a trainer and workshop provider I have provided workshops and training packages to the NHS, other counselling organisations, staff at Cambridge University and within educational settings. Workshops and Training packages are bespoke, depending on the needs and requirements of the organisation.
Typical training packages include:
- Listening Skills - basic, intermediate, advanced
- Stress - including aetiology, causes of, development of personal stress plan, ways of managing
- Relaxation - including visualisations, physical movement, guided imagery
Well-being - including maximising potential, increasing capacity, increasing resilience
- Introduction to Mindful Practice
- Mindfulness and Well-being
- Mindfulness and Chronic Pain / Illness
My work as a Mindfulness trainer has been both with individuals and in group settings; creating individual working plans and leading workshops that focus both on the underpinning philosophy of Mindfulness and on the practice of Mindfulness itself.
Most of my work is currently now with the University of Cambridge Staff Counselling Service as a permanent member of the team and in private practice and training.
My own on going personal and professional development has always been and continues to be an important part of my working ethics.
