Life brings us many challenges and that can feel very lonely. I offer a reflective, supportive and confidential space to explore these difficulties, and work towards a better understanding to help you move into the future with renewed confidence and motivation.
How I Work
I am an experienced Biographical Counsellor. In our sessions we would look at your current difficulties and the important events of your life. We would begin to make sense of what has led you to where you are now, how this is affecting you in the present and where this could take you constructively in the future. We would look at what is important to you, what is painful, what is helpful, and what you would like to be different. The process would be guided by what you would wish to explore. Through the process of looking at your life it may be that how you wish to take hold of it and shape it becomes clearer to you.
I have worked with people with a wide variety of ages and difficulties that can occur in life.
In 2000 I changed direction after working with and teaching young people with learning disabilities for many years and I trained as a biographical counsellor. At the same time I wanted to develop my creativity and I took up pottery. I am fascinated by the change and creativity which can be found in working with processes which can be found in both. The process of counselling can bring about greater awareness and change. It require time, care and quiet concentration to allow something new to grow and develop, and I find that these two aspects of my life complement and enhance each other.
I have worked as a counsellor for the last sixteen years, mainly at St Luke’s NHS Practice in Stroud, which is now St Luke’s Therapy Centre, and in other venues in Stroud.
I work with individuals, both adults and young people. We can work for just a few sessions or can work longer which would give time to go into more depth.
