About me

During the current COVID-19 service I moved all my practice online and as an experienced  video-calling  and online therapist am happy to help using Zoom Skype, WhatsApp or any of the other platforms.  I am now also working in-person again.

“This member has completed UKCP Covid-19 Online Working Guidance.”

Deciding to come to therapy or couple counselling can be a daunting experience especially when feeling confused, depressed, anxious or upset.  However the experience of talking to an approachable professional can often be a real relief.

My aim as a therapist is to provide time and space for those wanting to explore  their difficulties within the setting of a therapeutic relationship.  By processing painful or traumatic experiences, looking at relationship dynamics, addressing unconscious or limiting aspects of behaviour, potential new ways of coping with life's issues can often be found and concerns resolved

I have been working as a therapist for over 30 years.  Initially trained in psychodynamic counselling, I am also a qualified clinical supervisor, systemic couple therapist, CBT and  psychoanalytic psychotherapist.
I am an experienced individual and couples counsellor as well as offering clinical supervision, training and consultancy.  I  completed a training in Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT) and in Online Therapy.

  • Member On-line Therapy Institute
  • PG Cert CBT (Westminster Pastoral Foundation)
  • Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (Guild of Psychotherapists)

I have worked in many different settings over the years I have been in practice including educational, NHS and charitable agencies.  I was for many years the Head of Student Counselling at the University of Sussex and course convenor of the PG Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling there at the University, have worked at the University of Westminster on the Mind-Body programme and most recently was part of the Supervision Masters teaching team at the University of Surrey.  I continue with a small teaching role at the University of Brighton.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

I work at three sites across Brighton & Hove as well as online which not only means I have good disabled access but can work across the world. Please discuss any accessibility issues you may have.
