Welcome to my profile! I am a Mindfulness-Based Therapist offering Individuals and Couples Therapy in Basingstoke and Reading.
My core belief is that we are all essentially healthy beings and my intention is to support you to reconnect with your healthy internal resources. Whatever it is that brings you to therapy, I believe you have the ability to heal; all that you need is a safe, supportive space in which to do this.
What can you expect from Individual Counselling
The first sessions will be a chance for us to get to know what the difficulties are and how best to approach and resolve the issues you are facing. I will work with you to mould your therapy around your needs. I want you to get to the heart of the issues as quickly as possible and achieve your goals as quickly as possible.
I will invite you to look at other perspectives. I will also offer you creative skills and techniques that can be helpful in understanding how to move forward with confidence.
We may also look to explore your past; as understanding your past can help you understand how things are for you now. However, most of the work we do together will focus on how you experience life in the present. In the present moment you can feel more open, receptive, calm and alive in relationship with yourself and others. I will show you how to build on and develop this vital resource.
It takes courage and persistence to commit to this work of self exploration, but the rewards can be profound. Usually positive change can be felt in the first few sessions. After this it's really up to you how long you want to see me for. Some people benefit from a few sessions to help with a crisis. Some people want to see me for a longer period to get to and beyond the roots of what is holding them back from living a full and satisfying life.
It has been a privilege in my time as a therapist to have helped many clients overcome many issues you would visit your GP for including anxiety, depression, bipolar or manic depression, panic disorder, phobias, postnatal depression, relationship issues, addiction, abuse, family issues, bereavement, low self-esteem, eating disorders and anger management.
I am also skilled and interested in helping people overcome shame and any trauma in their lives.
What can you expect from Couples Counselling
In couples counselling I work creatively with avoidance and conflict, taking an active role in facilitating those important discussions. I help couples with communication problems, affairs, loss of intimacy & desire, and loss of direction in long-term relationships.
You will be encouraged to avoid blame and take responsibility; working issues through together as a couple in a safe, calm and creative way. I will help you recognise your relationships strengths and weaknesses and your responsibilities moving forward. Couples therapy is a highly specialised form of therapy and I would always recommend you visit someone who is a Professionally trained Couples Therapist.
I am fully qualified and registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I work with a diverse range of clients and have over 9 years experience working in organisations, hospitals, education and privately.
I work from my offices in central Basingstoke and Reading. I can normally see clients within 1 week of making initial contact.
Please feel free to call me, or what many people do is email me first to arrange an informal chat. I can then call you at a time that suits you. The telephone call will be roughly 20-minutes and in that time you can get a good idea of how I can help you and if I am the right therapist for you. It is really important that you feel comfortable working with me and if you feel we don't 'click' then I will be happy to provide you with referrals to other therapists. I will do the same if I feel I can't meet your requirements.

I have studied Mindfulness and incorporate this into my therapeutic approach. Mindfulness invites us to live less in our heads - where we ruminate over the past and worry about the future, which can lead to depression, anxiety and related difficulties - It is far better for our mental heath that we spend time being present, in the present we are able to experience more freedom, peace, creativity and well-being. If you would like to learn these mindfulness skills (and anyone can learn them!), I can help you do this.

There will be no fee for the initial phone consultation (for Individual Counselling) - an informal 20-minute discussion in which you can get a sense of whether therapy with me will work for you.
Individual counselling - my current fee for a weekly session is £40 per 50-minutes.
Couples counselling - my current fee for a weekly session is £60 per 60-minutes and £90 for 1.5-hours.
The first session for Couples lasts 1.5-hours and is charged at £60, thereafter you can decide the length of your sessions.
Do I offer reduced fees?
The fee is negotiable for low waged clients - please ask me.
I also offer a 10% discount on fees when you book and prepay for 6 counselling sessions in advance. If you choose this option, all 6 sessions must be used within 2 months.

Meeting face-to-face may not always be possible or preferable. I am experienced at working over Skype, instant messenger and email. If this way of working appeals to you please let me know.
