About us

FreshStart Psychotherapy offers low-cost psychotherapy to anyone living in the Greater London area. We offer open-ended, 50 minute, weekly sessions with trainee psychotherapists who are sufficiently advanced in their training to be able to work in depth.

Sessions take place at the grade II listed CCPE building in Little Venice, W2 which overlooks the beautiful Grand Union canal. The building has a ground floor WC and wheelchair access. It is easily accessed by public transport, being served by a variety of bus services and Warwick Avenue underground and Paddington station within short walking distance.

To contact FreshStart Psychotherapy to arrange an initial meeting, phone: 020 7691 7638 or send us an email.

Training, qualifications & experience

Initial assessments are undertaken by fully qualified, experienced and UKCP registered psychotherapists.

Based on an individual's needs and availability, care is taken to carefully match and refer to a therapist who seems the most suitable for working with that particular client.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

We have verified that at least one professional at this organisation is registered with the relevant professional body.

Further information

FreshStart, in its original incarnation, started off as a very small set-up in 1999, when three psychotherapy trainees at the CCPE, (Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy Education), Christa Scholtz, Kersti Traube and Jane Al Salem, later joined by Vera Mensinga as their supervisor, recognised that there was a need in the community for affordable short and long term counselling and psychotherapy, and for trainees such as themselves to have a placement.

In January 2009, FreshStart Psychotherapy was formed as a limited company and in September of that year, FSP was awarded charitable status. Current trustees are Spencer Clifford, Annie Foley, Amanda Hon (UKCP Reg.), Rachela Leonello, Christa Scholtz (UKCP Reg.), and Derek Williams (UKCP Reg.).

Our mission is to provide low fee psychotherapy to people who could otherwise not afford to access such a service, and to provide a voluntary placement of excellence for trainee psychotherapists. The service is open to anyone in the Greater London community who wishes to have the support provided by weekly psychotherapy.
