About me

**Face to Face appointments available**

We all need extra support from time to time as well as time and space to talk through difficulties that we may be experiencing.

Counselling is a talking therapy that offers the time and space needed, which is ideal for clients to talk through any worries or concerns that they may have, especially if they are unable to talk to their friends and family.

I work as a person-centred counsellor within Catterick Garrison and surrounding areas. Person-centred counselling empowers the client to understand and make sense of their problems, without feeling judged, within a confidential and safe environment.

Counselling encourages self-expression, self-awareness, self-development and a greater understanding of self. It recognises and values the client, allows barriers to be broken down and the learning of self to begin.

It is the genuineness and intimacy of the client/counsellor relationship that makes person-centred counselling so special. The focus of person-centred counselling is always on the client's own thoughts and feelings, not those of the counsellor.

I offer 1:1 counselling and couples counselling.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a worked with many clients over the years however I have been lucky enough to work closely with veterans, military personnel.

Some areas I have worked in include; trauma, domestic abuse, anxiety, depression, bereavement, low self-esteem, relationship issues and couples therapy.

I have always had a great interest in counselling which led me on to starting my counselling career in 2006. I studied for 3 years at Chapters Counselling and Training where I gained a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling as well as a Level 2 and Level 3 certificate in counselling.

As part of studying for the Level 4 Diploma I was fortunate to work within bereavement care where I gained 100+ counselling hours.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
