About us

*CURRENTLY NOT TAKING NEW CLIENTS*

Bedford Counselling and Training is a Charity whose aim is to provide affordable counselling to those in need in the Bedford area and surrounding areas. We are a service for adults (people of 18 years and over).

People seek counselling for different reasons such as:

  • coping with crises
  • depression and anxiety
  • abuse and neglect
  • problems in their relationship to food
  • relationship difficulties
  • sexuality and gender identity
  • sadness, loss and grief
  • a feeling of loss of purpose or inadequacy
  • difficulties in managing illness or chronic disease.

You can begin by telephoning or emailing us. Please leave your contact details and someone will get back to you as soon as possible to arrange an appointment for an assessment meeting.

What happens at assessment?

At your assessment an experienced counsellor will give you time and space to talk through what brings you to counselling and ask about your life story. This appointment will take about 90 minutes. After this assessment we will consider the best counsellor for you, and your assigned counsellor will contact you with an appointment to start your counselling.

You will have a weekly session with the same counsellor, which will always be at the same time and place and last 50 minutes.

This is a space to reflect and think about difficult emotions:  to be listened to by someone who won’t judge you, and think through old patterns of behavior; to come to terms with your life difficulties and make changes if you can.

Your counselling is confidential. Only if the counsellor considered there to be a risk of you harming yourself or others would they involve other professional agencies, and this would be done with your full knowledge.

Training, qualifications & experience

All our counsellors are either in professional training or professionally trained and supervised, and are members of the BACP or other similar professional body.

Member organisations *

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

We have verified that at least one professional at this organisation is registered with the relevant professional body.
