Anna Davis registered MBACP Spirals Counselling Service
I appreciate it can take real courage to seek out a counsellor, I am passionate about the possibility for positive change and how the process of counselling can bring about valuable insights and lead to feeling happier and more steady in our lives.
" I found (Anna 's) approach to be gentle and empathic and at the same time she challenged me to consider the areas that I needed to. Together we unravelled difficulties that I had faced in the past and considered them in the present and the future, a process that I found incredibly helpful and which also encouraged me to move forward as well as to face up to past issues. The counsellor was always reliable and flexible with timing the sessions and provided a safe and comfortable environment in which to explore some challenging issues. I would recommend Spirals Counselling Service to anyone wanting to move forward in their emotional thinking at a gentle and appropriate pace."
I am sensitive, perceptive and professional and believe that to be really heard within a safe and respectful therapeutic relationship can bring about positive and enduring change. It can lead towards gaining deeper understanding, self confidence and potential resolution to difficult or painful issues you may be struggling with.
My role primarily is to listen and reflect back what I am hearing and perceiving, through our shared communication and gentle exploration it is possible to shed light on thoughts, feelings and patterns of behaviour which had previously remained stuck or hidden.
My core approach is Person Centred Counselling, which means that I am non directive, I do not offer advice or personal opinions but work in partnership with you , following your lead with what you would like to explore in your own time.
I have worked within an N.H.S Mental Health setting for almost five years as well as counselling within my own private practice. The majority of counselling sessions involve spoken dialogue between us but I have also developed a flexible and creative approach and can offer drawing, writing, Mindfulness techniques or gentle movement (Chi Kung ) in order to encourage further exploration and skills if this is helpful or appropriate to an individual. I may also borrow elements from other therapeutic models such as Gestalt, Transactional Analysis or Mindfulness.
Alongside my Counselling practice I have over twenty years experience teaching T'ai Chi and Chi-Kung to individuals and groups , I am a parent and an enthusiastic Artist, I have also been personally involved in the study and practice of Eastern meditation and philosophy for almost thirty years. I feel that these experiences in my personal life contribute to and inform my gentle, warm and non judgemental approach.
