Carolyn Powell. Psychotherapist, Relations Therapy (UKCP, BACP accred. COSRT )
Hello and welcome.
Life can be a challenge and sometimes we need help beyond our usual circle of friends. Someone who is a good listener, committed and there for us. I hope that this
is something that I can offer you.
My qualifications include MSc. Integrative Psychotherapist. UKCP (Level 8) ; PG Dip Psycho-Sexual & Relational Therapy ( Level 7) ; BACP senior accredited Counsellor/Therapist (BA Hons) Level 6 and Clinical Supervision (Level 7). COSRT accreditation.
I hope that encourages you ~ if you are looking for a therapist to attend to your psychological well-being it is good to know that they are well trained. I work in 3 areas: General Counselling issues; Psychotherapy for more long term and/or clinically diagnosed issues ; and therapy for sexual dysfunction & relational problems.
I am a very experienced practitioner and trainer. I work with both couples and individuals across a variety of issues including stress, anxiety, depression and bereavement through to the more specialised area of Relational & Psycho-Sexual therapy. More about that below. My preference is to work longer term as that gives me a chance to get to know you well and for you to really tackle some of those deep and disturbing experiences from the past as they affect you now in your current life and relationships.
My style is relational. I work with an Integrative model which means that I work in line with your needs and that I believe a good relationship between us will facilitate the changes you are looking for.
There are many reasons why you might be reading this and looking for a therapist. Maybe for you it is a sense of lost-ness, world weariness or confusion. Maybe relationships are difficult at work or at home. Maybe you have simply lost yourself somewhere or are confused about your identity. Or maybe it is the pressure of life causing anxiety and depression.
Fully trained as a both a Counsellor, Psychotherapist and Psycho-sexual therapist, I am qualified to work with general anxiety, depression & bereavement issues. Also with clinical diagnosis and mental health issues (including clinical depression, bi-polar and the autistic spectrum) , OCD and obsessive behaviours, addictions, loss of identity and direction and other confusing issues that our hi-tec and demanding society generate.
Psycho-sexual therapy refers to when underlying issues or past experiences affect your sex life, sexuality or relationships. For example marital / relational issues, separation and divorce, emotional & communication issues, sexuality and sexual functioning, performance and needs, sexual identity & experience. I can also work with you if you are struggling with the results of sexual trauma or abuse. I hold a PG.Dip in this area and am an accredited member of COSRT. See my website for more details.
Originally a teacher, I have had many years experience of working with a variety of people & age groups in many contexts including cross-cultural. My experiences of juggling the demands of being a mum, wife, teacher and a student as well as my own journey of self discovery have helped me appreciate many aspects of the complexities of life. I now work as a private Psychotherapist / Counsellor / Clinical Supervisor , run short counselling courses and lecture Counselling to degree level.
Therapy for me is a chance to come alongside both individuals and couples who might feel anxious, depressed, stuck, angry or confused. I am happy to work with people who genuinely wish to tackle issues in their lives in order to effect a change to their situation. I am glad to be able to offer as a fully qualified, accredited and registered member of both UKCP (Psychotherapy/ Integrative), BACP (counsellor & psychotherapist) and COSRT.
I work in a quiet and secure space in central Watford . I believe this environment can be a safe haven for you in which you can tackle your own issues and consider your options for a more fulfilled future. I am conveniently situated in central Watford near the Palace theatre with easy access from Watford Junction trains and also the A41/ M25/ M1 and local to areas around Watford . My clients hail from clients from Uxbridge, Harrow, Luton, Hemel , St Albans, Rickmansworth, Chorley Wood etc.
I would love to hear from you so please feel free to phone text or email to arrange an Initial Assessment or phone for a short chat and we can talk over your needs together.
An Initial Assessment is arranged at your convenience and lasts about an hour during which time you can talk through your issue and we can assess your needs together. If we gel and feel that we can work together we then plan an approach and further sessions and a way ahead.
