About me

Are you struggling and looking for change which is powerful, deep, effective and lasting?

If so, then please read on...

Screen%20shot%202011-10-31%20at%2013.57.Whilst I certainly don't claim to have quick and easy answers to your problems, what I can do is help you to explore and change the underlying patterns which are creating them. I'm able to offer you many helpful approaches to enable you to make the changes you want and to find meaning and inner freedom in your life. I retain an enduring fascination for the wisdom and potential power of your inner self and a passionate commitment to discovering new therapeutic approaches to help you access this wisdom.

I should say that, above all, I value the working relationship which I form with you as the most important medium in which to find the space to explore your inner world. I have been told that I provide a calm and intuitive style backed up by the many theories, skills and tools which I've accumulated and adapted from several in-depth trainings and 30 year's experience. These have all been devised especially to help others and I have selected those which I feel are most efficacious and which suit my style and personality to use. I have already helped many people to overcome their difficulties and to find their inner strengths. There is a good chance that, in a calm, confidential and accepting environment, I can help you achieve these things too.

In the last 5 years I have come to specialise in an exciting new therapeutic method called EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing). Whilst it can be incorporated as a potent 8-stage tool in a wider integrative therapeutic practice it can also be used as a standalone therapy. I use it in either situation depending on your need. EMDR's reputation has been built up for resolving and eradicating the ill effects of trauma and PTSD, but it can actually help you to resolve many problems at their root such as, for example, anxiety, lack of self confidence, anger problems and so on. In fact, EMDR has become my preferred method for helping others.

I realise that for some of you searching for a therapist can stir up some anxiety and can be a difficult step to take; this may be particularly the case when trying something different and which is largely unknown, such as EMDR. Through an initial telephone conversation or an assessment session or both, together we can create the opportunity to determine if my style is right for you and whether we can work together. I will discuss with you the best method for your issues; EMDR will always be in the list of options but, of course, may not be appropriate in your case. Anyway, I have a more in depth website on EMDR which you can find here.

Overall, I describe myself as a humanistic* and integrative therapeutic practitioner but with a special interest in EMDR* and also the theories of Dr Carl Jung. This means that I will also bring to you transpersonal* and psychodynamic* thinking as well as cutting-edge EMDR techniques.

In addition, the mind-body connection and the impact of the psyche on physical and emotional health has always provided a strong magnetic pull to me and I completed my Master's Degree dissertation on this topic, for which I'm pleased to say, I received a Distinction.

Please note that I have trained in and include Couples*** or Relationship Counselling, NLP, CBT***, Mindfulness*** and EMDR*** in my skills base.

More About Me
I now work mainly on a secure specialist Video platform, created for EMDR therapists and clients. This can easily be adapted for non-EMDR clients and Couples.

I am registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) since 1988, and an accredited member of the UK Association of Humanistic Psychology Practitioners (UKAHPP) since Jan 2002. I am now, since 2007, a registered member of the UK Council of Psychotherapy (UKCP)- Psychotherapeutic Counselling section, and since Jan 2014 an accredited EMDR practitioner member of EMDR UK & Ireland.

***Please see this website for definitions of these therapeutic modalities if you so wish.

***Please note that, during the pandemic, I only offer therapy online. I will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. The video platform which I use is called Bilateral Base which is a dedicated platform for EMDR practitioners and clients. I will send you your re-usable link once I have received your signed Terms & Conditions.  I use Doxy.me for Couples.

Fees are payable on the day you have your session booked, by BACS transfer in all cases.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKAHPP
United Kingdom Association for Humanistic Psychology Practitioners (UKAHPP)

UKAHPP is a national accrediting organisation for all those who apply the theories of Humanistic Psychology in their work. The UKAHPP is an independent member organisation of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and the UK Register of Counsellors.

The Association is made up of a number of different membership classes e.g. Associate Members, Affiliate Members, Full Members, each with different requirements for entry. Full Members may use the initials 'MAHPP' after their names, and have undergone a rigorous accreditation procedure relevant to their discipline.

All members of the Association of Humanistic Psychology Practitioners must commit to acceptance of the UKAHPP Code of Ethical Principles, the UKAHPP Code of Practice, the UKAHPP Ethical Review Procedure and the UKAHPP Complaints Procedure.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
