Tired of playing that role?

Disappointed with your life choices? Underwhelmed by your options for the future? Weary of maintaining a facade? Of feigning interest? Tired of playing that role?

Feel that you have no time to take stock and decide what is really important to you? Are you another year older and no nearer to fulfilling any of your ambitions? Perhaps you have forgotten just what it was you were so excited and enthusiastic about, all those years ago?

Find yourself getting irrationally angry - with your partner, or your children, or your parents? With the senior citizen blocking the supermarket aisle with her trolley? Or the middle-aged businessman driving so close to your bumper that you can see his scowling face in the rear-view?

Grinding your teeth? Muttering to yourself? Heart racing, lump rising in your throat? Nervous and jittery? Waking up at 3 or 4am most mornings and struggling to get back to sleep? Anxious? Depressed? Do you feel stressed – much, most, or even all of the time?

Let us take a deep breath. And a moment to reflect...

Can you remember the last time that you acted spontaneously - or creatively? Can you remember the last time that you had some real fun? The last time you sang or danced - or simply laughed out loud?

Of course, counselling alone cannot cure all our modern ills. But if any, or most, of the above apply to you, do not panic. Counselling or psychotherapy can certainly help. Help you to unravel your anxieties and move beyond them. Help you to rediscover some autonomy and increase your sense of self-worth. Counselling can help you to remember that you have the freedom to choose - how do I really want to live my life? Because it is your life, whether you like it or not.

Beneath the roles and the facade, we are all individuals, all unique. If you are tired of playing that role, you can – and should – change.
