About me

Hi and welcome.

I am a fully qualified and BACP registered counsellor. Counselling can give you space to look at problems you might be experiencing. Each of us can go through times when we find it difficult to cope. We can feel stressed, and alone. Exploring your thoughts and feelings in a confidential space where you won’t feel judged can be a step towards clarity and change.

I am able to offer counselling face to face in a therapy room in Hedge End and also work with clients online via Zoom.

You might have lots of questions about counselling. I know I did so I have tried here to answer a few that might come to mind.

What can counselling do for me?

I can help you on your journey as you work towards change.

If you are facing difficulties, I can provide you with the empathy and acceptance that can allow you to become more aware of your thoughts and feelings and to identify what you might be able to do to become more comfortable.

This can help you see your way forward more clearly towards a more happy and fulfilling future.

Through discovering more about ourselves and working through problems, be they relationship concerns, anxiety, stress or other issues, we can come to a better understanding of how we want to live our lives.

What will happen during the first session?

The first session can enable you to decide if counselling is for you and to find out if I might be the right person for you to work with.

Clients can use the time to explore what has brought them to counselling, to tell their story. You may arrive at some goals to work towards and I can enable you to review these goals as the work progresses.

Counselling sessions last for fifty minutes and are usually held on a weekly basis.

Beginning a counselling relationship can be the first step towards experiencing your world in a new and more positive way.

If you have any questions about counselling you are very welcome to call me for an informal conversation about the service I offer. Call me on 07519917856  or you are welcome to email me.

I have session slots available during the day and on some days during the evenings too.

What is my background?

As well as private practise, I have worked in a higher education setting counselling students. I have also worked for a bereavement counselling charity. I have a degree in Humanistic counselling and prior to becoming a therapist I was a teacher in primary education.

I have had extensive experience counselling students in a university therapy setting and through this work have helped clients deal with issues such as anxiety, trauma, depression, loss and relationship issues. The counselling department offered clients short blocks of therapy. Working in this way, I helped clients to focus, clarify their goals and make the most of their limited time. I believe that it is possible for clients to make progress even when time is short.

I have also specialised in working with loss and in particular with individuals who have been bereaved. As always, the circumstances and needs of each client are unique to them. I help clients find their way at their chosen pace, through the challenges of bereavement. I have worked short and long-term with clients and supported them as they faced the emotional journey of grief and progressed towards acceptance and hope.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
