About me

I have been working with people and in service of others for most of my entire adult life, as, a teacher, learning and development professional, and as a coach and mentor. But, as I reflect on my career over the last 40 years, I have always had a calling to work with people at a deep, very personal, perhaps spiritual level, to help co-create the conditions for a therapeutic healing relationship to emerge.

I have been trained in both the person centred and psychodynamic traditions with inter-personal dialogue at the heart of both approaches.

In particular, I believe in: love and respect for all. A commitment to provide a safe, healing space to talk. A commitment to be with my client throughout the journey together. And finally, a belief that the client knows best and will work things out, given the right amount of support and time.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have been lucky enough to have gained extensive experience in working with people and teams, in both the public and private sectors, as a teacher, trainer, coach and mentor.

My qualifications include a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy from Edinburgh University, a Postgraduate certificate in teaching from Heriot Watt University and a Master's degree in Training and Human Resource management from Leicester University.

Further information

What led me to psychotherapy and counselling?
I have been working with people and in service of others for most of my entire adult life, as, a teacher, learning and development professional, and as a coach and mentor.  But, as I reflect on my career over the last 40 years, I have always had a calling to work with people at a deep, very personal, perhaps spiritual level, to help co create the conditions for a therapeutic healing relationship to emerge.

What do I believe about successful therapy?
I believe that a deep, equitable, non-judging and trusting relationship, between two people is at the heart of all successful therapy. In the words of E.E. Cummings, ‘It takes courage to grow and become who you really are’

I have found that growing and developing a sense of who we truly believe we are, in the relation to our past, ourself, our families, friends and society is a life long endeavour.  It is my belief that it helps us when we can practice self-love, to raise our self-esteem and to realise that we are deserving of love and respect. That each and every one of us is more than good enough.
Of course, the challenge can be that if, through our life experience, we have come to believe we are not deserving of love and respect, then our relationships can become emotionally unhealthy for us, as we may leave it to others to decide whether we are good enough or not.

I take comfort from the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, ‘ the only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be’.
