About me
If you are looking for a counsellor or supervisor who is compassionate, thoughtful, and genuinely invested in your wellbeing and development, I’d be glad to hear from you.
Shanni Hurton - Counsellor & Clinical Supervisor (Accredited NCPS)
Hello, I’m Shanni.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck in your thoughts, emotionally exhausted, or carrying more than you can manage on your own, you’re not alone and you don’t have to figure things out by yourself.
I offer a warm, compassionate, and non-judgemental space where you can slow things down, feel heard, and begin to make sense of what’s been happening for you. Many of the people I work with tell me they’ve spent a long time “coping” or putting others first, while quietly struggling inside. Therapy can be a place where you finally get some breathing space.
I have over 20 years’ experience working with both adults and children, across a range of settings. This depth of experience allows me to work confidently and thoughtfully with complex emotional needs, while remaining flexible and responsive to each individual.
My approach is relational trauma-informed, and neuro divergent affirming . I believe that healing and professional growth happens through feeling safe, understood, and respected, not pushed or told what to do. I work alongside you at your pace, helping you untangle thoughts, manage overwhelm, and reconnect with yourself in a kinder way.
Alongside my counselling work, I am also a clinical supervisor, offering supportive and reflective supervision to counsellors and trainees. My supervision style mirrors my therapeutic approach: collaborative, compassionate, and grounded. I aim to create a space where supervisees feel safe enough to think, reflect, question, and grow without fear of judgement.
I am an accredited member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) and work in line with their ethical framework.
Clients and supervisees often describe me as calm, genuine, and easy to talk to. I bring warmth, honesty, and gentle humour where appropriate, with a down-to-earth style. I don’t hide behind jargon I’m a real person, sitting alongside another real person.
I have 20 years of experience supporting adults and young people with:
- Anxiety, stress, and overthinking
- Low mood and emotional exhaustion
- Trauma and adverse life experiences
- Domestic abuse and relational trauma
- Neurodivergence (including ADHD and AuDHD)
- Self-esteem and identity struggles
- Feeling “different”, disconnected, or not good enough
- Life transitions, loss, and change
Whether you’re coming for personal counselling or seeking supervision as part of your professional journey, you’re welcome here. You don’t need to have everything figured out, we can work it through together.
Starting counselling or supervision can feel daunting, especially if you’re used to managing alone or holding responsibility for others. I aim to make that first step feel as safe, supportive, and human as possible.
If you’re looking for a counsellor or supervisor who is experienced, compassionate, and genuinely invested in your wellbeing and development, I’d be glad to hear from you.
