About us

Welcome to Sevenoaks Counselling

We’re a team of qualified and experienced therapists, here to offer a safe, supportive, and affordable counselling service to our community. We’ve been doing this since 1983, and we’re proud to support people from all walks of life.

Our work is guided by three core values:

Compassion

We believe that everyone deserves kindness, respect and understanding. Whatever your background, identity, or beliefs, you are welcome here.

Hope

We believe in each person’s capacity for growth and change. Whatever you have experienced, however you are feeling, we believe that positive change is possible and we’re here to listen and support you in finding a way forward.

Community

We care about our local community and want counselling to be accessible to those who need it. That’s why we offer subsidised places for people living in the Sevenoaks district who are in financial hardship.

Training, qualifications & experience

If you choose to come to us, here’s what you can expect:

  • Professional support: Our team is made up of fully qualified, experienced therapists who are carefully supported by the charity and paid fairly. This means you’ll receive consistent and dependable high-quality care from people who are dedicated to working with you.
  • Affordable for everyone
We believe counselling should be accessible to all. That’s why we keep our fees lower than typical rates and offer subsidised places if you’re facing financial difficulties.
  • Support at your pace
The number of sessions is not limited here. We trust that you know what feels right for you, and we’re here for as long as you need us to be.

Our counselling rooms are private, welcoming, and easy to get to, just a short walk from Sevenoaks mainline station. We also offer disabled access and have parking available nearby.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

We have verified that at least one professional at this organisation is registered with the relevant professional body.

Areas of counselling we deal with

Fees

£10.00 - £60.00

Additional information

Our fees are:

£55 per session for individuals (including children and young people) and £60 for Families and Couples.

Each session costs approximately £46 to deliver and the remainder of any fee is used to subsidise counselling sessions for those who are unable to afford the fee and to support the service with costs.

We provide our subsidised service to clients who have limited financial resources and:

Live within 4 miles of our service and/or
Live with the area of Sevenoaks District Council.

Each counsellor will discuss the subsidised fee with a client, but we use a sliding scale to suggest a fair contribution.  This is based on gross household income (we are aware that some clients will be in households who are not aware or supportive of counselling and this can be discussed). Please see our website for more details.

If you are not within that area, you are very welcome to attend counselling but will not be able to access our subsidised service.   This is because we work hard to obtain local funding that limits our service to our local community.  We can signpost you to a subsidised service close to you.
