About me

I support clients by providing a space where they can explore the challenges they face without judgement. Through active listening and sensitive questioning, I help clients build an understanding of their issues and provide perspective to help them find possible solutions, or to move towards a sense of self that feels authentic and meaningful. I recognise that issues cannot always be resolved, and in such cases I believe that the therapeutic relationship between client and counsellor can be healing.

I encourage clients to trust their own wisdom and to build their self-awareness. The content of my sessions is often informed by what the client feels is most important to focus on. That might include reflecting on family and self, past events and how they impact the present moment, and/or personal resources and support networks.

I specialise in honouring, navigating, and supporting the experiences of people marginalised across the intersections of race, ethnicity, sexuality and gender. I work with adults and young people ages 16+ working with issues such as… ableism, abuse, ADHD, anxiety, Autism, beliefs and spirituality, culture, discrimination, education, family, gender identity, grief, homophobia, racism, relationship diversity, sexual identity, transphobia and work.

I offer a free 15 minute telephone consultation, for you to explain the basics of what you want to explore in counselling and a decision can be made about whether we will be able to work together therapeutically.

Training, qualifications & experience

BA Hons in Performance Art from Royal Central School of Speech and Drama
Level 2 & 3 in Counselling Skills from Newcastle College
Level 4 & 5 in Counselling from Tyne Metropolitan College

I balance my work as a counsellor with work as a Youth Worker, a role in which I support young people's emotional wellbeing and development of interpersonal skills and social awareness. I am also a volunteer counsellor for the charity LGBT Foundation in Manchester.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
