About me

Hi, my name is Jess.

I am a Person Centred counsellor, this means that I work in a way that puts you at the centre of our work. I don't believe that “one size fits all” when it comes to counselling, and the Person Centred approach allows me to focus on your individual perspective and experiences.

I am passionate about supporting people with their mental health and wellbeing, and I believe the magic of counselling comes from allowing someone to be completely themselves without judgement. I offer a safe, welcoming and trusting environment for you to be able to discuss what is on your mind.  Offering a quality service is very important to me. You will be treated with compassion, respect and acceptance throughout our work together.

I work with adults and offer short-term, long-term, or open-ended therapy to suit your needs and budget.

My background and experience:

I have 11 years of experience working with people who are struggling with their mental health in one way or another. Whether this be long-term conditions, or due to circumstances and life stressors.

As a counsellor, I have frequently worked with people experiencing anxiety, depression and stress. Often this stems from underlying issues that together we are able to highlight and discuss within our sessions. I am able to offer a safe space to discuss daily life stressors, as well as the impact of historical events on the here and now.

I have experience of counselling individuals who have experienced drug and alcohol addiction, domestic violence, sexual assault, adverse childhood experiences, and other complex issues.

I also volunteered with Samaritans, taking phone calls from people in emotional distress and offering listening skills to provide emotional support for several years.

What to expect from a session with me:

I offer a free 30-minute introductory session, either by phone or video call. Within this session I will gather some further information about you, as well as explain in more detail the way in which I work. I will then give you some time to decide if you would like to work with me, and you can contact me to book a full 50-minute session.

During our first full session it is often a good starting point to discuss what it is that has brought you to counselling, and what you want to get out of our sessions together.

It is up to you how frequent sessions are, and I work flexibly to ensure I can book clients in at a time that suits them.

I work remotely with clients from all over the UK. Either via phone or video call. I also offer Walk and Talk sessions if you are local. If you book a telephone session I will call you from a no caller ID number. If you book a video call session I will send you a Google Meets link out via email which will work for all future sessions. Walk and Talk sessions will need to be discussed in more detail before booking.

If you'd like to have an informal chat, book an introductory session, or get some more information on how I work, click the 'email me' button above and drop me an email.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The pro’s of remote counselling:

  • Counselling from the comfort of your own home.
  • You do not have to be local to me to access counselling.
  • Video call allows us face to face so no facial expressions or body language is missed.
  • Access to consistent counselling if you travel regularly.
  • Sessions offered at a lower price due to not having to pay for a room.
  • Sessions are easier to re-arrange if necessary as a room is not booked.
  • No need to fight through traffic to get to an appointment - no concern about running late.
  • Allows for consistency as you can access counselling from anywhere, therefore you do not need to miss a session.

Please feel free to contact me by phone or email if you would like to discuss any part of the counselling process with me first. I am happy to answer any questions you have around how I work to ensure I am the right counsellor for you.
