About me

My name is Michael and I’m a fully qualified counsellor based near Birmingham, and a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. We all have times when we struggle to cope with where we are in life and need a safe place to talk about our issues and concerns. You may be feeling anxious, overwhelmed, depressed and struggling to cope.

I provide a calm, confidential, safe, non-judgemental space for you to share your thoughts and feelings and make the life changes that are right for you.

As an integrative counsellor, I draw on a range of different counselling approaches (modalities), and I can tailor how we work together according to your specific needs.  My approach allows you, my client, to lead in respect of what you want to talk about, as you explore what’s troubling you and the life changes that are right for you.  In our journey you will have the space to explore relationships, behaviours, past and present life events, coping with difficult situations and your associated feelings, thoughts and emotions.

I’ll work alongside you – to understand you and enable you to harness your own strengths and experience to move forward and make changes in your life.  I strongly believe that we are at our best when we live our lives to our own values, rather than the values imposed on us by others.

I can provide both short-term and long-term counselling.

I work with ...

Anxiety, Bereavement, Loss, Depression, Trauma, Self-esteem, Relationships, Stress, Work-related problems, Work/life balance, Personal development, Attachment issues, Family dynamics

Training, qualifications & experience

I am an integrative counsellor and registered member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy).

I qualified as a counsellor following several years in a range of companies.  In those environments I discovered how, though a relationship based on valuing, trusting and empowering, people could meet their own personal needs for growth.

Now, alongside my own counselling private practice, I also support clients through voluntary organisations, including a specialist bereavement counselling service.

I work with clients experiencing a range of difficulties including Anxiety, Bereavement, Loss, Depression, Trauma, Self-esteem, Relationships, Stress, Work-related problems, Work/life balance, Personal development, Attachment issues, Family dynamics

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
