About me

Many people come to me feeling tired. They’ve been holding things together for a long time. They’re often self-aware and capable — they might already have coping strategies — but having spent a long time holding everything together while dealing with things like anxiety, depression, complex family dynamics, or the impact of difficult events, they’re exhausted from managing alone.

Working with me feels comfortable and real. There is no expectation that you “perform”, mask or be the “coping one” in the therapy room with me - you can show up exactly how you are, however you’re feeling.

What it’s like to work with me.

I’m a trauma-informed, integrative psychotherapist. That means I draw on different approaches depending on what feels helpful for you. We might explore how your thoughts, feelings, and past experiences connect to what’s happening now. We might also look at practical ways to cope when emotions feel overwhelming. Sessions are tailored to you, you aren’t expected to tailor yourself to the sessions.

We’ll work together as equals, respecting your expertise in your own lived experiences and strengths. Whilst psychoeducation and coping skills are useful tools I often use, I don’t believe my place is to “diagnose” you or decide what’s best for you. I completely understand that when you’re tired of coping it’s natural to want someone else to take the reins. However my style is collaborative and relational; I’m here to support you to empower yourself rather than taking control of the process.

Therapy sessions can be tough sometimes, but they should always feel like something you’re choosing, not something happening to you. I don’t want you to ever feel out of control within the therapeutic process, unsure of what we’re doing, or pushed to share something before you’re ready. You can always tell me if something feels unclear, unhelpful or just off. We’ll be clear on what we’re working on and why and work to ensure sessions feel safe and side-by-side.

In our first session, we’ll focus on making the space feel comfortable and clear. We’ll talk through practicalities and start thinking about what you’d like sessions to be for. You’ll share at a pace that feels manageable.

How we might work together.

We can talk things through, write them down, map them out, or use alternative ways of exploring what’s going on. Sometimes you might not have the words for something, and so looking at it from a different angle makes it easier.

I love to hear about the things you’re passionate about and that really matter to you - creative projects, activism you’re involved in, video or role playing games, the books you’re reading or a special interest. These things matter because they’re part of your resilience and who you are. I welcome all the enthusiasm, passion and “nerdy” joy you bring with you.

If you’re struggling with flashbacks, nightmares or difficult memories, I can offer the Rewind Technique — a non-intrusive way to help your brain process them without having to relive every detail out loud.

My practice is neurodivergent-friendly and LGBTQ+ affirming.

If you’d like to arrange a chat or ask any questions, you’re very welcome to get in touch via email or to have a look on my website.

Training, qualifications & experience

Experience

Before training as a psychotherapist, I spent over fifteen years supporting people through difficult and often traumatic experiences, such as abuse or homelessness. Lately I have been working in local counselling services helping people from across South Wales. I have supported people from all walks of life with a really wide range of experiences and difficulties. Clients have told me they're surprised by how comfortable they feel talking to me about things they used to keep hidden because they know I take everything in my stride without judgment.

Qualifications & Memberships

  • MA Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy, University of South Wales
  • Postgraduate Certificate Integrative Counselling Skills, University of South Wales
  • Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)

Training

I’m a firm believer that the best therapy is backed by the latest research and knowledge. I’m constantly updating my practice with the latest research and training so I can provide you with clear psychoeducation - the “why” behind why we find ourselves reacting in certain ways - tools and to ensure that my practice is affirmative for all people. Some examples of the topics of recent training have included neurodivergence, OCD, managing insomnia and working therapeutically with trans and non binary people.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

I offer a free 30-minute consultation online before you decide to start sessions. This gives you a chance to ask any questions, see if you feel comfortable working with me, and for me to get a sense of whether I am a good fit for you.

Sessions take place in a calm, confidential private office on Cathedral Road in Pontcanna, Cardiff on Fridays. Some clients come for a few weeks to focus on a specific concern, while others choose longer-term therapy to explore deeper patterns and experiences. However long we work together, my aim is to offer a supportive space where you can reflect, understand yourself more fully, feel a bit lighter and more prepared to face life’s challenges.

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

My office is on the first floor with lift access, soft lighting, minimal noise, and fidget toys. Eye contact is not required and the space aims to be welcoming to those with sensory needs.
