About me

Hi my name is Matt and I am a psychotherapist based between London and San Sebastian in Spain.

I am currently taking on new clients.

I offer online sessions and am available Monday - Friday between 8.30am - 9.30pm

I am an integrative therapist which means I can adopt a variety of approaches to suit the need of the person I am seeing. My speciality is the person centred approach which focuses on being an active listener and facilitating your understanding of the challenges you face. While an online approach provides great flexibility to you and allows the convenience of sessions from your own home.

You can expect a warm, nurturing approach to counselling and an environment that gives you confidence to share your worries as we work collaboratively to improve your overall well being.

Training, qualifications & experience

My background has been working in a school and college setting in West London counselling pupils and young adults with ASD, Dyslexia, and other learning needs. This has been especially rewarding to support pupils who have often had bad experiences in other educational settings and work on building their self esteem and confidence. I have been working in this setting for over 5 years and it has enabled me to work with parents, young adults and academic staff to encourage an open approach to talking about problems and hopefully eliminate any stigma around this.

Before that I have worked in a hospice supporting people with loss and grief as well as drawing on my time in care home settings to better understand the feelings of loneliness and isolation we all sometimes experience.

Now in private practice I am hoping my experience with Bereavement Counselling can help others work through their grief.

I am also looking to build confidence with people who are struggling with low self esteem.  We can then work together to help you overcome the challenges you are facing.

You can expect a dedicated professional who is warm, calm and approachable and above all else a good listener.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

What can you expect?

After making initial contact via email we will arrange a first session to get to know one another. At this point, I would ask your preference on whether you would like a set time each week, fortnightly etc.. or if you would like to organise sessions week by week.  I would then send over a copy of the counselling agreement for you to look at before we see one another.

This first session is half price and acts as an opportunity to discuss some of the following.

  • What brought you to counselling?
  • How our first 6 sessions might look if you decide to carry on?
  • The counselling contract. Predominantly confidentiality.

After the session, I would encourage you to have some time to think about whether we could work together or not and if so we would book in our next session. If not then I would look at potential referral options for you.

I really look forward to hearing from you. I understand that making contact for the first time can be a big step, so I really appreciate you taking the time to read my profile.
