About me
Hello and welcome.
There are times in our lives when we feel lost, overwhelmed, anxious, and unable to move forward. Post lockdown and Covid, life has changed drastically for many of us. It has caused a lot of anxiety, relationship issues and left us feeling isolated. It is times like this that we just need to speak, share, look inside, reflect, sit with our difficult and painful feelings, or just cry. Talking to a professional can be beneficial during these times, this is because a counsellor is trained to listen and respond. Therapy provides you with that space where you can feel supported, safe, understood, heard, and it can help you cope with your inner conflicts to provide you with a different perspective on your life.
Initial consultation/first session:
I believe in working collaboratively with my clients on a physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual level. I also believe that the relationship between the therapist and the client is of upmost importance in therapy. And without a strong therapeutic relationship the process of growth and healing cannot happen. The whole process of choosing the right therapist can be very daunting, so I try to make it easier for my clients. I encourage you to take an informed decision, so before you commit for long/short term therapy I offer a 20 minuets free initial assessment session. It can be on the phone or online. This can help both of us to have a better understanding of each other. Once you speak to me personally, this will help you to decide whether I am the right therapist for you and help me to understand your needs. There is no obligation to work with me after the initial assessment. Please feel free to get in touch.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a qualified counsellor and Registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy BACP. I am an integrative counsellor - that simply means I tailor my approach to the needs of my clients by using more than one theory and technique.
Apart from my professional training I also have my own life experiences which enables me to view circumstances from different cultural lenses. I have worked with the Multi-ethnic Counselling Service at the Waterloo Community Centre. This experience has taught me the understanding and importance of inter-cultural therapy. My own socio- cultural background and experience of migration and re-adjustment in a new culture and place, has increased my sensitivity and understanding for issues related to race, religious norms, values, cultural dynamics, identity, and non-Western relationship dynamics.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
