About me
There are many reasons why people come to therapy. There might be something in the past or present that is troubling you, and you need some help to work it through. You may be struggling with your mental health or emotions, and want to feel more at ease and able to manage better. Maybe you are experiencing difficulties in relationships which you want to change or improve, or you may just have a sense of feeling stuck, lost, or confused and need help to find a way forward.
As a qualified UKCP Registered Psychotherapist I have the training and experience to help you explore, understand, and work through your difficulties. Enabling you to gain awareness, find a new perspective, and move forward with life.
My training and experience enables me to work with a broad range of issues, life situations, and mental health needs. For instance, but not exclusively: anxiety and panic, depression, low self-esteem, difficult early experiences, trauma and complex trauma, stress and burnout, work issues, bullying, abuse, relationship difficulties, grief and loss, psychological impact of physical health issues; including experience of working with people impacted by cancer, sexuality or identity issues, navigating neurodiversity (particularly late discovered or discovering). I have worked with people from all walks of life, and I value uniqueness and diversity.
I mainly work on a medium to long-term basis with the understanding that to really get to know ourselves and make long lasting change takes time. However, I do also offer short-term therapy with a specific focus, or to support you through a particular life crisis.
I can offer therapy sessions in person in Stratford-upon-Avon, or online through Microsoft Teams. I mainly work from my home therapy studio, which is a tranquil space in my garden, located in Stratford-upon-Avon. I also offer some evening appointments at Lifeways Therapy Centre.
If being outside suits you better, I can offer 'walk and talk' therapy sessions, which are held outside in nature.

My approach
My therapeutic approach is integrative, which means I draw upon a range of theories and methods, enabling me to tailor the therapy to your individual needs.
The main theories or modalities that underpin my work are: gestalt therapy, humanistic, relational developmental, psychodynamic ideas, attachment theory, object relations, compassion focused therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, trauma informed, polyvagal theory, and embodied psychotherapy.
I have a down-to-earth style, and offer a warm, non-judgemental and empathic relationship, where you can feel truly heard, understood and accepted. I strongly believe in the power of relationship in the process towards healing, self-acceptance, and growth. I therefore place great importance on the therapeutic relationship that develops between us.
My work is trauma informed which means that I view distress through the lens of what has happened to us, rather than something being wrong with us. How we are impacted by life experiences shapes how we see ourself, others, and the world around us.
Humans are naturally creative, and are constantly adapting to life's challenges. However, our present is often influenced by past experiences, and our ways of being that were once adaptive can become fixed. We can then get stuck in patterns of relating or behaving that may be unhelpful or self-defeating. I can help you to make connections to how your past may be impacting you now. I focus on your whole experience of mind, body, and emotions, to enable you to better understand yourself. Once we know ourselves better, we are then free to choose to accept ourselves, or explore the possibility of change, by trying out new ways of being.
I can also offer tools and resources that you can put into practice outside of therapy, to help stabilise and regulate your emotions at times of overwhelm or shut down. This can enable you to manage your emotions better, and feel more connected with yourself, and the world around you.
You will notice that I say ‘us’ and ‘we’ when I describe therapy. This is to show that no one is immune to life struggles, including me. I strongly believe in hope, and that we all have the potential to heal, grow and change.
Initial Contact
If you feel, after looking at my profile that I may be able to help, you can call me or email me in the first instance. We can then arrange a FREE approx 20 minute introductory phone or video call. You can let me know what brings you to therapy, and I can answer any questions you may have. If you then wish to meet, we can arrange a suitable time for an initial session.
I appreciate taking the first step in making contact is daunting, but I can guide you through it, and will take things at your pace. Therapy can be of benefit to most people and potentially a transformative and life changing experience.
Professional Membership
I am a registered member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy and a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, which means I have undergone rigorous training, and I am committed to the principles and values of good practice set out in the ethical framework. I hold a current advanced DBS check and hold relevant insurances.
Training, qualifications & experience
In order to qualify as a psychotherapist, I undertook 4 years of in-depth training, including 450+ hours of supervised clinical practice & 160+ hours of therapy. I have an MSc in Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy and an Advanced Diploma in Psychotherapy Studies from Birmingham Newman university.
I have always held a special interest in psychology and mental health. Prior to training as a psychotherapist I worked in the public sector, in social and mental health care for over 20 years, most of which as a senior mental health practitioner and clinical supervisor.
As a psychotherapist I have volunteered at a local counselling charity, and worked as a psychotherapist in the NHS with people impacted by cancer. I currently work in full-time independent practice.
My previous qualifications include an MA in Social Work from Leicester university, a Post Qualifying Award in Mental Health Social Work, and a BSc Degree in Psychology from Coventry university. I bring all my knowledge and experience to my work, and have a commitment to lifelong learning, in keeping up to date through continuing professional development.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
