About me

Hi and thank you for visiting my profile page. I'm Kirsty, a CBT therapist and psychotherapeutic counsellor working with young people, adults and couples. I offer face to face or online sessions from a comfortable, welcoming base in Therapy North, Jesmond, Newcastle and coming soon from House 7 in Tynemouth.

Finding the right therapist can be daunting and it can feel stressful to reach out for support and take that first step. Therapy works best when there is a strong therapeutic alliance and trust in both the therapeutic model and therapist. That is what I aim to provide when you choose to share your story with me.

I work as an integrative therapist which means I can use a variety of models and a range of techniques to suit your needs. I work with individuals and couples, not diagnoses or labels so whatever is troubling you, I offer a safe compassionate space. Everyone needs something different, so we will work together to explore what you want from therapy and how to achieve it. I work as part of a team and we all have different areas of specialism to fit your needs.

No issue is too small. I believe preventing mental health becoming worse is just as important as treating it. Many people make an appointment as they are suffering with anxiety but don't specifically know what kind of therapy they want and that is fine. You will find me to be an empathetic, goal orientated therapist, that cares about listening to your problems and supporting you to get where you want to be.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have not always been a therapist and come from a varied background. I am a former police officer, teacher, founder and CEO which means I have experienced many different problems and issues along the way.

I re-trained as a therapist, studying for a MSc in Psychology as well as qualifying with a Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling and a Post Graduate qualification in CBT. I am professionally registered with the British Psychological Society, the BACP and the BABCP to reassure you that I work to the highest standards and values.

I am an Integrative Therapist, trained in both Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Psychotherapeutic Counselling. The team at Therapy North all have different areas of specialism so we can support you to find the right person for you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
