About me

Life and relationships can sometimes have us feel like we are being tossed around in a stormy sea. How to cope, wondering who I am or why does this keep happening to me can often be questions we ask ourselves. Sometimes it’s not appropriate or possible to talk with those close to you, and so having someone like a counsellor may be of help at this time.

You may not know why you feel this way, and that’s ok too. We can work this out together.

I believe calming that tension between who we are and who we feel we should be can be the start to giving ourselves that much needed compassion we often lack in providing ourselves. I will not tell you how to feel, think or live your life, my role is to help you find the answers you may have already. I feel that you know yourself more than anyone.

For me counselling is about providing a safe space to be who we really are, warts and all, while building a nurturing relationship. My training and experience as an Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counsellor means that I can draw upon different theoretical approaches. Working in this way I can provide individual counselling to meet a person’s own unique needs.

My own personal journey, I feel, provides me with the compassion and understanding of what it can be like when faced with times of despair, seemingly impossible situations, and self acceptance. Prior to counselling I have 5 years’ experience as a Samaritan Listening Volunteer which has given me the privilege of supporting many different people, in all times of their life, with issues that affect us all; everyone has their own story. I’ve also experience of loss, especially of a parent during young adult years and the affect this has on a journey into adulthood.

Training, qualifications & experience

Aside to my private practice I work in a pupil referral unit offering counselling to parents and children who find themselves struggling in mainstream education. I also work within a counselling network that primarily supports adults who suspect or are diagnosed with ADHD. In both these roles I work with problems such as relationship issues, domestic abuse, parenting, bereavement, isolation, loneliness and low self-esteem. All of which can create anxiety and or depression and effect our self-worth.

I hold individual membership of the National Counselling Society (NCS) and British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I agree with and work within their code of practice called the Code of Ethical Practice and Ethical Framework respectively.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
