About me

Supportive Counselling offers a calm, compassionate, and non‑judgemental space where you can talk openly and feel genuinely heard. I specialise in working with neurodivergence, trauma, and sleep‑related difficulties, supporting adults, children, and adolescents (age 9+) who may feel overwhelmed, misunderstood, or stuck.

People come to counselling for many different reasons, including anxiety, low mood, trauma, bereavement, relationship difficulties, stress, sleep disruption, or a sense that life feels hard to manage. I have particular experience supporting autistic and ADHD individuals and bring many years of dedicated training, experience, and understanding to this work.

I am the Director of Supportive Counselling Ltd and also have a team of counsellors and psychotherapists. Together, we offer therapy across a wide range of days and times, including evenings and weekends, allowing greater flexibility to meet different needs and schedules.

My work recognises that words are not always enough. Alongside talking therapy, I use creative and non‑verbal approaches where helpful, including play, art, sand tray, and Lego therapy. These approaches can be particularly supportive for children, young people, and adults who find it hard to identify or express emotions, including those who experience alexithymia.

I also offer trauma‑informed therapeutic support, working gently and carefully with experiences that may feel overwhelming or difficult to revisit. This includes trauma that impacts sleep, relationships, identity, and the nervous system. Therapy is always paced collaboratively, with a strong focus on emotional safety, choice, and trust.

My approach is relational, integrative, and non‑directive. I aim to offer a space where you can begin to understand yourself more fully, make sense of your experiences, and explore change in a way that feels right for you. There is no expectation to have the right words or to move at any particular pace. We work together, guided by what feels most important to you.

I work with a wide range of experiences, including anxiety, depression, trauma, bereavement, relationship challenges, stress, low self‑esteem, sleep difficulties, identity‑related concerns, and life transitions. I also offer LGBTQIA+ affirmative counselling, providing a respectful and inclusive space where all aspects of identity are welcomed and supported.

Seeking support can feel daunting, but taking that first step is a sign of courage. My aim is to offer therapy that feels respectful, supportive, and authentic, helping you reconnect with your strengths and navigate life with greater confidence and clarity.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a fully qualified and insured counsellor and psychotherapist and am happy to provide proof of qualifications and insurance on request. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work in accordance with their Ethical Framework for Good Practice. This includes engaging in regular clinical supervision, ongoing professional development, and reflective practice to ensure safe, ethical, and effective work.

I hold an up‑to‑date Enhanced DBS check.

I am also a registered member of the International Association for Rewind Trauma Therapy (IARTT) and trained by Dr Muss. This enables me to offer Rewind Trauma Therapy as a structured approach for working with trauma, including single‑event and more complex experiences.

Alongside my clinical practice, I am the Director of Supportive Counselling Ltd. My background includes managing a charity counselling project, mentoring trainee counsellors, and working with complex and sensitive cases. I have experience across both NHS and charity settings, supporting individuals, children, and families with a wide range of needs. This breadth of experience has shaped my commitment to providing thoughtful, ethical, and compassionate therapy.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

Neurodivergence sits at the heart of my work. I have a strong drive and dedication to this area, shaped by many years of focused learning, professional training, and experience. I work with neurodivergent clients including those who are autistic, ADHD, dyslexic, dyspraxic, or have dyscalculia. Support is offered whether you are pre‑diagnosis, post‑diagnosis, self‑identified, or have chosen not to pursue a formal diagnosis. My aim is to help you better understand yourself, develop self‑acceptance, and find clearer and more sustainable ways forward.

Alongside neurodivergence, I work with children (age 9+) and adults across a range of emotional and mental health difficulties. This includes anxiety, depression, low self‑esteem, low self‑confidence, stress, burnout, and sleep‑related difficulties. Many people come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure why things feel so hard, and we work together to gently explore what is happening and what may help.

I have extensive experience working with trauma and its many impacts, including complex trauma, dissociation, emotional, physical, and sexual abuse, domestic abuse, and the effects of betrayal, affairs, separation, and divorce. I also support people experiencing panic attacks, social anxiety, suicidal thoughts, work‑related stress, and difficulties linked to past addiction.

My work includes support around loss and life transitions, such as bereavement, baby loss, miscarriage, infertility, postnatal depression, menopause, chronic illness, chronic fatigue syndrome/ME, and caring responsibilities. I also work with individuals affected by bullying, childhood trauma, discrimination, and identity‑related concerns, and I offer LGBTQIA+ affirmative counselling.

Where helpful, I draw on creative and non‑verbal approaches, including play, art, sand tray, and Lego therapy. These can be particularly supportive for children, young people, and adults who find it difficult to express thoughts and feelings through words alone.

In addition to counselling and psychotherapy, I offer Rewind Trauma Therapy. This is a structured approach to trauma that does not require clients to describe traumatic events in detail and is often referred to as closure without disclosure. It aims to reduce or stop involuntary recall of traumatic memories while voluntary recall remains, and for some people this can be effective in a small number of sessions.

First sessions
Your first session is an opportunity for us to begin getting to know one another and for you to settle into the therapeutic space. We will explore what has brought you to therapy, what you would like support with, and whether my approach feels right for you. There is no expectation to share more than feels comfortable, and we work at a pace that feels manageable.

Many clients find it helpful to read more about what to expect before their first session. I have written a blog that explains this in more detail:
https://supportivecounselling.co.uk/what-to-expect-in-your-first-counselling-session/

Rewind Trauma Therapy
If Rewind Trauma Therapy is being considered, this is always discussed carefully in advance. Rewind differs from other imaginal exposure approaches as there is no requirement to describe traumatic events in detail. For this reason, it is often referred to as closure without disclosure.

Rewind aims to reduce or stop involuntary recall of traumatic memories while allowing voluntary recall to remain. Single‑event trauma often requires two to three sessions. Where trauma is more complex or involves multiple events, sessions are planned carefully depending on how the trauma presents.

Payment
An invoice is emailed prior to your session. Payment is made by bank transfer.
