About me
I’m Karly (she/her), a registered and accredited art psychotherapist and EMDR Practitioner. I am also a qualified clinical supervisor and am able to offer supervision to counsellors/therapists of all modalities.
I am a queer and neurodivergent therapist who specialises in working in the following areas:
- Abuse and trauma
- Neurodiversity
- Exploring LGBTQ+ identity, including issues around sexuality and/or gender identity
- Anxiety, stress and hyper-vigilance
- Depression and feelings of hopelessness, loneliness or loss
- Low self-esteem and feelings of low self-worth or confidence.
I offer a safe, affirming and non-judgemental space for all and strive to be anti-oppressive in my approach. I am sex worker-friendly and comfortable with working with people in non-traditional relationship structures.
My journey to become an art psychotherapist began when I begrudgingly admitted that therapy does actually really help after stubbornly resisting speaking to a professional myself for many years. I passionately believe that art therapy can offer a powerful ‘other’ space where we can discover who we really are and what we really need away from the pressures of the day-to-day.
As a practitioner (and a person!), I would describe myself as warm, approachable, compassionate and endlessly curious.
Training, qualifications & experience
Alongside my private practice, I am currently senior therapist at Share Psychotherapy. Previously, I was senior therapist at Sheffield Mind where I also managed and delivered therapy on their specialist domestic abuse counselling service.
My background with young people is in inclusion in mainstream schools and pupil referral units. I have many years of experience working alongside young people with additional needs and disabilities.
- MA Art Psychotherapy Practice, Art Therapy Northern Programme (Leeds Becket) - Distinction
- Certified EMDR Practitioner - EMDR Academy, London
- Advanced Diploma in Clinical Supervision (level 6), Ellesmere Counselling and Psychotherapy Training, Hull

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.
They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.
Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.

Additional information
I offer discounted rates to art psychotherapists in training. Please note I can only work with 3 trainees from each art therapy course at a time due to restrictions set by the training providers.
Art psychotherapy sessions for adults are £65 for 50 minutes, art psychotherapy sessions for young people are £75 for 50 minutes and pure EMDR sessions are £80 for 50 minutes. All sessions are 50 minutes long. Sometimes, we might decide it would be more helpful and productive to have EMDR sessions which are an hour long. In these circumstances, we can discuss a small addional fee.

Further information
I am an integrative art psychotherapist, which means my work is informed by multiple therapeutic theories and approaches.
As well as talking, part of our work together would be utilising art making to communicate thoughts, emotions and experiences. Sometimes words are not enough and art psychotherapy can help you to harness the transformative power of creativity for self-expression and healing.
Sometimes, I integrate EMDR therapy into my work. This is a specialised trauma-processing technique which can help your brain and body know that the danger has passed and you are safe now.
As a practitioner, I believe every individual is multi-faceted and work in a non-judgemental and holistic way which considers the cognitive thought processes of the mind as well the feeling, somatic realm of the body.
Recognising, honouring and understanding the often confusing landscape of emotions is central to the way I work and I believe that creating a safe space where you can feel the stirrings of your own inner compass is key to healing.
Like stones shaped by the water that rushes over them, we are all shaped by our past experiences and I am interested in the things which may have happened to you to shape the person you are today.
Together, we can work in a trauma-informed way to safely process difficult memories, experiences or emotions which may be holding you back and allow you to blossom into a new way of being.
