About me

Accepting enquiries for in person sessions: waiting list open for September start. Online sessions: limited evening availability.

Perhaps you’re having trouble making sense of things at the moment... A calm, steady and confidential space where you can speak openly at a pace that feels manageable.

Grief certified & trauma informed, I have over twenty years’ experience working with people who are trying to make sense of their inner world, whether facing something immediate or carrying longer-standing emotional patterns and experiences. The Room You’re In® is my counselling and psychotherapy practice offering in-person sessions in Beckenham and online.

Alongside private practice, I have worked for St Michael’s Hospice, Mind, Victim Support, Autism Sussex and schools. I believe people are the experts on themselves, even when life, trauma or emotional overwhelm can make that difficult to access or trust. My role is not to tell you who you are, but to walk alongside you with care, experience and professional understanding as we begin to make sense of what you’re experiencing together.

This might include:

  • Anxiety, low mood or emotional overwhelm
  • Grief and bereavement
  • Trauma
  • Current or past difficulties
  • Relational difficulties
  • Identity and life transitions
  • Anger difficulties
  • Depression

How I work:

  • Integrative & relational approach
  • A collaborative process rather than a fixed method
  • Non-judgmental, safe space to bring what you need
  • A focus on understanding, listening and making sense

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

Sessions are charged at £80 per weekly fifty-minute session, for both in-person and online work.

The initial assessment session is charged at the same rate and is a standalone session, with no obligation to continue.

If you are a therapist in training and would like to discuss fees, you are welcome to contact me directly.

Because your session time is held specifically for you, I ask for a minimum of 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel a session. Sessions cancelled with less than this notice, or missed without notice, are charged in full.

If you decide to bring therapy to an end, I ask for at least two weeks’ notice so that we can work towards a thoughtful and contained ending.

Further information

Starting therapy can bring uncertainty as well as practical questions.

The first session is an initial assessment and offers a calm, confidential space to talk about what has brought you to therapy and what you are finding difficult at the moment. It is also an opportunity for us both to consider whether we feel comfortable working together.

You do not need to know exactly what you want to say before you begin. Many people arrive unsure of where to start, and we take things one step at a time.

Therapy is offered in weekly 50-minute sessions, usually in six-week blocks, providing a sense of structure and containment while allowing the work to develop at a manageable pace.
