About me

Be Heard Counselling – A Space to Feel Heard and Understood

Hello, I’m Karen Janas (MBACP, MNCPS Accred), an experienced integrative counsellor and coach based in Wellington, Somerset. I help adults, couples, and young people work through life’s challenges — from anxiety, depression, and low confidence to relationship issues, grief, and the impact of trauma.

Many of my clients come to me feeling anxious, low or overwhelmed — caught between wanting to hold everything together and feeling like they’re quietly falling apart.
You might be living with anxiety, depression, grief, or burnout, or struggling with unhealthy relationships — with people, with food, or with yourself.
Perhaps you’re navigating the emotional changes of menopause, feeling unheard in a toxic or one-sided relationship, or simply aware that life has become about coping rather than living.

I help you understand what’s happening beneath the surface — the dopamine-driven patterns, the old emotional survival strategies, and the loss of voice that can come from years of putting others first.
Together, we explore what your feelings are trying to tell you and gently unpick what’s keeping you stuck, so you can rebuild self-trust, confidence, calm, and connection.

Grief, whether from bereavement, relationship loss, or the life you thought you’d have, often weaves through this work too. My approach offers space to honour that pain while finding meaning and hope again.

How I Work
I work in an integrative way, drawing on several therapeutic approaches to suit your needs. My foundation is Person-Centred, offering warmth, empathy, and respect, alongside Transactional Analysis, which helps you understand patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaviour. Together, we’ll explore how your past experiences might be shaping your present, and how to create positive, lasting change.

I also bring skills from my background in coaching, teaching, and training.

Appointments

I offer daytime and evening sessions in Wellington, Somerset, with free parking and disabled access by arrangement. I also offer online sessions nationwide.

Sessions can be short-term (to focus on a specific issue) or longer-term for deeper exploration.

If you’re unsure where to start, you’re very welcome to contact me for a free, confidential chat to see if I’m the right fit for you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
