About me
Hello! I’m Julie (she/her), an integrative therapist based in Maida Vale and online. I am also a writer, artist, dancer, and sensitive human daring greatly through life.
Being human in today's world is not easy for many reasons. It’s very normal to struggle, repeat patterns, and feel overwhelmed. Therapy can provide a useful environment and tools to begin to make sense of where you are in your life, and to discover ways of engaging with yourself and others that work better for you.
How I work
I find each person brings a unique set of needs, values, and lived experiences to therapy, so a bespoke approach is required. As an integrative therapist, I am trained to combine a wide range of therapeutic approaches in a way that is most appropriate for you. We may explore your early life and its impact on you, we may work with unconscious material, we may look at your relationship to your social and cultural environment, we may work directly with emotions in the body, or we may work creatively using colours, images, words, music, etc.
I believe we are profoundly impacted by our experiences in relationships. The quality of our relationships affects the way our brain and nervous system develop, our ability to feel and process emotions, and to connect with one another. My practice is informed by the notion that healing also happens in relationships.
I will take the time to understand the concerns which brought you to therapy from your perspective. I will guide you to develop some deeper understanding, and a sense of empowerment and choice around the things that trouble you. Any exploration of challenging or painful material requires a safe enough space for you to open up, which is why I prioritise developing a strong and trusting working alliance.
While I bring a certain expertise, you are the ultimate expert on you, and so we will work together to find a strategy that makes sense and feels useful to you. Therapy with me is a dialogue, in which we both have a voice, and permission to be who we are.
Areas of specialism
Loneliness, connection, and belonging
We live in an individualist culture that promotes independence and esteems monogamous romantic relationships. This leaves many people under-resourced, disillusioned, and self-doubting. Loneliness has become a problem of epidemic proportions. Among a socio-political climate of division, many are questioning what it means to belong, and how to foster community. This process is further complicated by personal histories of loss and othering. I offer a space to reflect on the story of your relationships, soothe the pain of disconnection, and discover ways of inviting deeper and better feeling interactions.
Gender and sexual fluidity
While gender and sexual diversity are gaining greater recognition in the public eye, there is still little space afforded to questioning, being ‘in-between’, and moving fluidly between polarities. Queer people face a lot of pressure to be certain about their identity, to choose a ‘box’, and stay there. This reflects a wider colonial tendency to categorise individuals as a means of controlling expression and desire, and upholding patriarchal norms. There is joy in the permission to be more than one thing, and in my sessions, I offer a space to play and explore the multitudes of your personhood.
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold a postgraduate Diploma in Integrative Counselling from the Minster Centre, quality assured by the Quality Assurance Agency for higher education, and accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), of which I am a registered member.
I hold a 1st class Bachelor of Science with Honours degree in Psychology from the University of Bristol, accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS).
I have completed short courses in Mindfulness-based therapy (offered by West London NHS Trust), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT; offered by leaders in the field: Richard Bennett and Joe Oliver). I am pursuing further training in relationship therapy, group therapy, and psychosexual therapy.
I have worked in a variety of client-facing clinical roles in mental health services within the NHS, private and charity sectors, and the criminal justice system. I was a healthcare assistant at the Priory Hospital Roehampton, an assistant clinical psychologist in West London NHS Trust and Camden and Islington NHS Trust, a forensic mental health practitioner at Together for Mental Wellbeing, and a therapist at the Minster Centre Psychotherapy and Counselling Service, and an NHS complex depression, anxiety and trauma service.
Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
