Integrative Psychotherapist MSc (UKCP, MBACP)

About me

I'm a UKCP and BACP* registered Integrative Psychotherapist based in Walthamstow (E17) and Woodford Green (IG8).

Areas I can help with include:

Addressing problems with relationships (family/romantic/friendships etc)

Issues around identity and belonging (typically issues around sexuality, social identity and so on).

Dealing with work dissatisfaction and stress.

Experiences of loss such as bereavement, life transitions, changes in health, and the loss of meaning that can result.

Repetitive destructive behaviours such as addictions, self-harm, phobias or obsessions.

Issues relating to intimacy and sex in relationships such as questions around sexuality, loss of libido and so on.

I understand things like anxiety, depression and stress as stemming from the categories of experience above.

How I work

A central part of my practice is careful listening. My aim is to help you feel safe and supported, enough that you are then able to explore what is troubling you.

Therapy can be simply a place where I can listen to you, confidentially and non-judgementally. This alone can bring relief. However, I believe that therapy is more than this. It can also allow you to make positive changes to your life, so that you feel more fulfilled. This happens through identifying and disentangling patterns which are holding you back, such that you are more self-aware and able to make more decisions as to how to live your life.

Next steps

The first step is to contact me via the link above and we can arrange to meet. An initial consultation lasts 50 minutes and costs £60. During this consultation you can decide if you think I am the right person to help you, and I can work out whether I am suitable for your needs. If we decide to start working together then we can agree a weekly fee (between £60-90) based on your financial circumstances. If you have any questions about me or how I work I am happy to answer those via email prior to booking an initial consultation. If you want to read more about my practice please visit my website  (jonathanpollard.co.uk). I look forward to meeting you soon.

*UKCP and BACP are the two largest professional bodies for talking therapists in the UK - therapists registered with them must adhere to a strict ethical code and have gained a certain amount of experience and training to safely practice. Membership to either or both of these gives you, the client, a basic level of assurance that a therapist will act in your best interests at all times.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a fully qualified psychotherapist, having undertaken a five year MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy at the Metanoia Institute, London. I am registered with the UKCP and BACP.

I have experience working with a broad range of clients in both short and long term therapy. As well as my private practice, I have worked at the Metanoia Counselling and Psychotherapy Service, and at the Centre for Better Health, Hackney. I also have experience in an NHS-funded setting with people with enduring problems in living.

Qualifications:

MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy (distinction), Middlesex University, London

Clinical Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy, Metanoia Institute, London

Certificate in therapeutic skills and studies - Metanoia Institute, London

BA (hons) Philosophy/Sociology, University of Manchester

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
