About me

Do you ever wonder why you feel so deeply impacted by life that seems perfectly fine from the outside? Do you feel isolated from people because you struggle more than anyone you know? Or that nothing really bad had ever happened to you to explain your difficulties? I offer a space where you can explore your problems without having to justify your feelings, minimise your experiences, or convince me that they are important. You will be heard and believed without having to worry that it’s too much to ask or your problem is too complex to be helped. With my background in psychology and counselling, I use integrative models to work with anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, and physical health. I specialise in working with people who experienced role-reversal while growing up.

The ways we learned to survive in our families often continue to shape our lives long after we've left them in ways that are hard to explain or change. You may have grown up in a family where feelings were not discussed, conflict was avoided, or appearances mattered more than honesty. Perhaps there were secrets, unacknowledged losses, mental health struggles nobody talked about, or an expectation to present as a family who was "doing fine" even though it didn't match your emotional experience.  Many of my clients have spent years being the responsible one, or the one who keeps everything together. Therapy gives them permission to stop carrying that role on their own.

You might struggle naming what you feel or need and we will take our time to discover what feels true in your life and in our therapy. We will look at difficult situations that kept you feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or exhausted without having to hold it together. As those experiences become clearer, many people find they feel more connected to themselves, more confident in their own judgement, and better able to move forward with greater peace.

If you're looking for space to slow down and unpack what’s beneath the surface, I can help you reconnect with your needs, feelings, and resources. We will always work at your pace, and I will often check with you how you feel about the work we do together.

My dedication to this work comes from personal experience of having to navigate difficulties often without the language or support that would help me make sense of them. My mission is to bring all my knowledge, skills, and energy to walk beside you as you begin to examine your life.

Training, qualifications & experience

For over 17 years, I’ve been immersed in understanding what wellbeing is, and not just in theory, but in the messy, real-life ways it plays out when we're dealing with emotional pain, relationships, long-term health issues, or patterns that feel impossible to break. My background spans two Master’s degrees in Psychology, a wide range of roles in mental and physical health, and training in Pluralistic Counselling (currently on the doctoral level). I recently completed training in Brainspotting, which is a gentle way of addressing difficult emotions and unpleasant body sensations that are hard to put in words.

What does all that mean for you? It means I bring a well-rounded, compassionate, and flexible approach to therapy. No one-size-fits-all. Together, we’ll find what works for you; whether that’s making sense of difficult experiences, exploring the emotional impact of a painful life transition, or shifting deep-rooted patterns that are holding you back.

Having experienced therapy myself, I understand how meaningful and vulnerable it can be. I bring warmth, empathy and humour to ease our work. Things discussed in therapy can be painful, but the therapy itself doesn't have to. It's a privilege to be a counsellor, know people on such a personal level.

If that sounds like something you're looking for, you don’t have to figure it out alone. I’m here when you're ready.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

I am flexible in where and how often we will meet. I see clients in-person in a comfortable and inviting room near Broughton Street. I offer remote counselling via a safe online platform or via phone call, which makes it easier to fit the sessions around a busy schedule. I also offer outdoor therapy as Walk and Talk sessions in Edinburgh and surrounding area.

I am skilled in working both short-term (if you have a fixed number of sessions in mind) and open-ended, long-term work. We can meet every week at the same time or move your sessions flexibly depending on your schedule. If you are unsure as to what would work best for you, please contact me and we can work out the solution together.
