About me

Sometimes life leaves us feeling disconnected - from ourselves, our bodies, our sense of purpose and meaning, the people around us, and the world we live in. This can leave us feeling lonely, confused, distressed or overwhelmed. Therapy can be a place to explore that disconnection and, just as importantly, to experience connection again.

You might know exactly what brings you here, or you might have a vaguer sense that therapy could help somehow. Either is a fine place to start. Sometimes figuring out what you want and need from therapy is part of the process, and it's something we can do together. I offer a warm, non-judgmental, constructive space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences at your own pace and in a way that feels useful to you.

I take an integrative approach, drawing on a variety of therapeutic methods to find what fits you best. I may offer reflections, gentle challenges, experiments, mindfulness exercises, or ways to connect with your body’s sensations - all designed to broaden and deepen awareness of your experience.

Over time, therapy can help you feel more connected - to yourself, your experiences, your relationships, and your environment - making changes feel possible that may have felt out of reach before.

I have experience providing short-term counselling for specific challenges and longer-term psychotherapy. In my work I like to include honest and transparent conversations around how the therapy is going to help ensure that it continues to meet your wants and needs as much as it can.

I’ve worked with people navigating:

  • Anxiety, depression, and stress
  • Self-esteem and confidence challenges
  • Neurodivergence and related diagnoses
  • Personality disorder and related diagnoses
  • Grief and loss
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Work-related stress, burnout, and career transitions
  • Past or current trauma
  • Addiction
  • Panic attacks and phobias
  • Sex and intimacy concerns

This isn’t a complete list—if you’re wondering whether we could work together, I’m always happy to chat.

I’m trained to work in a trauma-informed way, prioritising safety, trust, and choice. I welcome people of all ages, neurotypes, sexual orientations, gender identities, and cultural backgrounds.

Taking the first step can feel big, so I offer a free 20-minute video call with no obligation. It’s a chance for you to ask questions about what therapy with me might be like and get any information you might need that helps you decide whether you'd like to begin.

You deserve support that feels safe, compassionate, and useful to you. If you want to know more about me and how I work, you can also visit www.jamieosmiththerapy.com.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am BACP-registered integrative therapist with a Master’s in Counselling and Psychotherapy providing short-term counselling and longer-term psychotherapy. My primary training was integrative, and I'm trained in the psychodynamic, person-centred, and gestalt approaches. This broad foundation allows me to tailor therapy in a way that genuinely fits your unique needs, supporting you in a way that feels authentic and meaningful.

I bring extensive experience from working in the mental health sector both in the UK and internationally, supporting people in Bogotá and Brussels. To deepen my practice and ensure I provide the most respectful and effective therapy, I have undertaken additional training to work in an anti-oppressive way, recognising and addressing power dynamics and systemic inequalities. I am also trained in trauma-informed approaches that prioritise safety and empowerment, in neurodivergence-affirmative practice that values diverse ways of thinking and experiencing the world, and in supporting Gender, Sexual, and Relationship Diversity (GSRD) with sensitivity and respect.

In addition to my therapeutic work, I hold a teaching qualification and provide best-practice mental health training to professionals.

I am passionate about creating a safe, welcoming space where you can explore your experiences openly, experiment with new ways of being, and find meaningful, lasting change.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

I want to make therapy with me as accessible as possible. This is best done collaboratively, so please get in touch with any questions regarding accessibility.
