About me

You may be experiencing anxiety or depression that's impacting your day to day life, finding yourself unable to process a past experience, finding it hard to come to terms with significant life changes, experiencing challenges in your relationships, or wanting to reconnect with yourself and what’s important to you. You may have an altogether different reason for seeking out therapy, or not even know exactly what brings you here. Whatever the circumstances, I will offer a compassionate and non-judgemental space to explore and process your experience in a way that feels safe and useful to you.

Many times I've seen that working in this collaborative way allows people to experiment with new ways of relating to themselves, their experiences, their relationships, and their environment. This can bring about change that previously felt impossible and usher in a new way of being that feels more meaningful and connected.

I am trained integratively and draw on various models and theories. In sessions I may offer reflections, insights, challenges, and experiments to encourage you to explore your experience in greater depth. I will encourage you to weigh up any invitation, considering how useful it feels. This process, over time, will help us develop a way of working that meets your needs.

I have worked with a wide range of experiences, including anxiety, low self-esteem, depression, ADHD, ASD, neurodiversity diagnoses, personality disorder diagnosis, low self-esteem, depression, bereavement, relationship issues, career issues, burn out, historic trauma, panic attacks, sex, and existential concerns.

I believe therapy has the potential to benefit everyone. I welcome and work with people of all life stages, sexual orientations, gender identities, and cultural backgrounds. Before working together you may wish to know more about me and I’m happy to answer any questions.

I offer a free, no-commitment call as an initial step. If you're interested, get in touch! I have more information about my practice and about talking therapy more broadly on my website at www.jamieosmiththerapy.com.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a fully qualified BACP-registered therapist working in Bristol and online. My primary training was an integrative Level 7 Counselling and Psychotherapy Master's that taught the Person-Centred, Gestalt, and Psychodynamic approaches to therapy. To improve my practice, I've undertaken additional training to be able to work in a trauma-informed way and to be able to work safely with bodily experience.

I've spent a large part of my working life in the mental health and homelessness sectors, working with people in Zimbabwe, Colombia, Belgium, and the UK. As well as working as a therapist, I provide best practice CPD training for mental health professionals in areas such as gender and sexuality, self-harm and suicidality, and neurodiversity affirmative practice.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Wheelchair user access info
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

I want to make therapy with me as accessible as possible. This is best done collaboratively, so please get in touch with any questions regarding accessibility.
